Spartiates De Marseille
The Spartiates de Marseille (English: ''Marseille Spartans''), formally known as Marseille Hockey Club, are an ice hockey club based in Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône, France. The team plays at Palais omnisports Marseille Grand-Est, which is the country's largest permanent ice rink by capacity. The 2023–24 season will mark their debut at the highest national level, the Ligue Magnus. History The club was established in April 2012 under the name Massilia Hockey Club —after Marseille's Latin name— to replace the city's historic Hockey Club Phocéen in the French Division 3 (fourth tier) league, when the latter pulled out of competition due to financial problems. FFHG Division 1 (Fédération Française de Hockey sur Glace Division 1 or French Ice Hockey Federation Division 1) is a semi-professional ice hockey league in France. It is the second of four levels of national ice hockey in France. The teams that end at the bottom of the table get relegated to FFHG Division 2 while the top get promoted to Ligue Magnus. 2021/22 Teams FFHG Division 1 consists of 14 teams. Season During the regular season, each team plays each of the other teams twice: once at home and once away (26 games). In the event of a tie at the end of three periods, one 10-minute overtime period is played based sudden-death rules. The French Ice Hockey Federation (french: Fédération française de hockey sur glace (FFHG)) is the governing body of ice hockey in France, as recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It was founded in 2006 after separation with the Fédération française des sports de glace (English: French Ice Sports Federation). For the first ten years, the federation had its offices in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Hauts-de-Seine. In 2016, it moved to a new national training center in Cergy, Val-d'Oise. The Association Étoile Noire de Strasbourg is a French ice hockey team based in Strasbourg and playing in Division 1. History The team currently uses the name of "Étoile Noire de Strasbourg" (Strasbourg Black Star) and was founded in 2000; they play home games at the Patinoire Iceberg. The Corsaires de Nantes (English: Nantes Corsairs) are an ice hockey team based in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, France. History Early years and short top-flight stay The club was founded in 1984, following the opening of the Petit Port Leisure Center, a sports complex featuring a brand new ice rink. It succeeded another club, simply called Hockey sur glace nantais, in the market. Its nickname is a reference to the corsairs, privateers sailing on behalf of the French crown from the middle ages to the early 19th century, a number of which were based in Nantes.
