Southpointe (Cecil, Pennsylvania)
Southpointe is a suburban business park located in Cecil Township near Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh and is a familiar landmark along Interstate 79. It is home to many corporations, including Fortune 500 members CONSOL Energy and Viatris as well as Ansys. Since the development of the Marcellus Shale in the Appalachian region, Southpointe has also become home to many natural gas producers, including Range Resources, Noble Energy, EQT and other service companies related to the industry. Southpointe is also home to the PrintScape Arena at Southpointe, which was the main practice and training facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins from May 20, 1995 until 2015. Since 2010 its golf course has hosted the PGA Tour event Mylan Classic. Cecil Township, Pennsylvania
Cecil Township is a township in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a suburb in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The population was 14,585 at the 2020 census. The township contains the Southpointe suburban business park; companies based there include Ansys, Consol Energy, Millcraft Industries and Mylan. Western Center
Western State School and Hospital, later known as Western Center, was a state-run mental hospital and reform school near Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. It is best known as an institution serving people with intellectual disabilities. The Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern Pennsylvania--known colloquially as the RIDC--is a privately funded non-profit serving the Pittsburgh metropolitan area to focus on a regional approach to economic development primarily through managing and rehabilitating area research and business parks for modern tenants. Printscape Arena at Southpointe (formerly the IceoPlex at Southpointe) is a multi-purpose dual arena facility located at exit 48 of Interstate 79 in the Pittsburgh business park of Southpointe in Cecil Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. It served as the practice facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins from opening on May 20, 1995, until 2015. The arena opened in 1995 as the Iceoplex at Southpointe, with Pittsburgh Penguins owner Howard Baldwin as one of the leaders in the project. Upon its opening, American Figure Skating Champion Suzy Semanick worked as a skating instructor and David Hanson was as general manager. Canonsburg is a Borough (Pennsylvania), borough in Washington County, Pennsylvania, southwest of Pittsburgh. Canonsburg was laid out by Colonel John Canon in 1789 and incorporated in 1802.
