Masvingo Sports Club
The Masvingo Sports Club is a cricket venue with first-class status in Masvingo. It was the home ground to one of Zimbabwe's provincial cricket sides, Southern Rocks, until the team's disbandment after the 2013–14 season. The ground has hosted several first class, List A and Twenty20 matches. In 2012–13 at the Masvingo Sports Club, Mountaineers dismissed Southern Rocks for 58, leaving themselves a target of 64 for victory, but Southern Rocks in turn dismissed Mountaineers for 26 to win by 37 runs. Two players share the ground record score of 217: Brendan Taylor scored 217 for Mid West Rhinos against Southern Rocks in 2009–10, and Dan Housego scored 217 not out for Mountaineers against Southern Rocks in 2013–14. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Logan Cup
The Logan Cup is the premier domestic first-class cricket competition in Zimbabwe. It is named after James Douglas Logan. History The first recorded cricket match in what was known at the time as Rhodesia was played in August 1890 near Fort Victoria. Within the next ten years, matches were played with more regularity and the most significant match was between teams representing Salisbury and Bulawayo. In 1903, James Douglas Logan presented Rhodesia's cricket teams with a cup to compete for, which was named the Logan Cup after him. At first-class level, Rhodesia entered a team in the South African Currie Cup in 1904–05, and then for most South African seasons from 1929–30 until 1978–79. 2006–07 Logan Cup
The 2006–07 Logan Cup was a first-class cricket competition held in Zimbabwe from 12 April 2007 to 13 May 2007. It was won by Easterns, who remained unbeaten in their five matches to top the table with 44 points. Following the cancellation of the 2005–06 competition, Zimbabwe Cricket reformatted the Logan Cup, including the addition of a Kenya Select side. However, the tournament received considerable negative publicity due to very poor organization: firstly, no fixture list was published, and, later scorecards and statistics were unavailable, prompting concern that the matches could lose their first-class status since the International Cricket Council (ICC) had not been given the appropriate information. Terry Duffin
Terrence Duffin (born 20 March 1982) is a former Zimbabwean international cricketer, who played Test matches and One Day Internationals, captaining the side in ODIs. International career Duffin has played two Test matches for Zimbabwe against India as an opening batsman, scoring 56 in the first innings of that tour, making him the fifth Zimbabwean to score a half-century on Test debut. However, in the second innings, Duffin was dismissed for two by Zaheer Khan. He was selected as the captain of the Zimbabwean One Day International team to play Kenya without having played an ODI. He scored 53 runs in the first ODI and carried his team to victory. He adjudged man of the match for match winning contributions. Gary Brent
Gary Bazil Brent (born 13 January 1976) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer. Brent is an inswinging bowler, with a good slow-arm bowling technique. Having missed the cut for the 2003 Cricket World Cup, he made the squad for the 2003/04 tour in Australia. Brent was one of the fifteen "rebel" players who were dismissed in 2004 due to a dispute with the Zimbabwean Cricket Board. Brent was a surprise call-up during the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, replacing the injured Terrence Duffin. He played just the one match, but proved useful, taking 1/28 from seven overs, and adding ten with the bat as part of the Zimbabwean total of 130. Tafadzwa Kamungozi (born 8 June 1987) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who bowls leg break.
