Southern Monon Conference
The Southern Monon Conference was an IHSAA-sanctioned conference in Southern Indiana. The conference was named after the two railroad lines the four founding schools were located along: the Southern (Milltown) and Monon (Borden, Campbellsburg, and Pekin). The conference doubled in size in its second year, yet had a large amount of turnover in its existence, The conference ended in 1965, when it merged with the Dixie Athletic Conference The Dixie Athletic Conference was a short-lived IHSAA-sanctioned conference in Southern Indiana. The conference was formed in 1961 by smaller, far-flung schools. Indiana High School Athletic Association
The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. Only football has 6 classes. Boys' basketball, girls' basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball are divided into four classes. Boys' and girls' soccer have featured three classes since the 2017–18 school year. All other sports compete in a single class. Orleans Jr. Sr. High School is a public high school in Orleans, Indiana. History Orleans High School was organized in 1866. Its first graduating class was in 1872. Medora is a town in Carr Township, Jackson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 693 at the 2010 census. Fayetteville is an unincorporated community in Indian Creek Township, Lawrence County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Fayetteville was platted on February 6, 1838, by Ezra Kern. Tunnelton, Indiana
Tunnelton is a Census-designated place in Guthrie Township, Lawrence County, Indiana. History Tunnelton was platted in 1859. Before Tunnelton was platted, the Tunnelton United Methodist Church was platted in 1816 by Thomas Milligan, the first minister in Lawrence County who also served all of Southern Indiana. The church itself, however, was built in 1891. The first schoolhouse was built in 1881, a large two story frame building. In 1910 a brick school was built, housing grade school and high school. In 1929 it was remodeled and later modernized. The Tunnelton High School had 250 to 300 in attendance. In 1957 a large, new gymnasium was completed. Now the school is abandoned.
