Gypsum is a city in Saline County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 400. History Early history For many millennia, the Great Plains of North America was inhabited by nomadic Native Americans. From the 16th century to 18th century, the Kingdom of France claimed ownership of large parts of North America. In 1762, after the French and Indian War, France secretly ceded New France to Spain, per the Treaty of Fontainebleau. 19th century In 1802, Spain returned most of the land to France. Mentor is an unincorporated community in Saline County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 101. It is located south of Salina on Mentor Road. History Mentor was named by settlers who hailed from Mentor, Ohio. Mentor had a post office between 1881 and 1995. A railroad previously ran north–south through Mentor, but it was later abandoned. Geography Mentor is located at , which is approximately three miles south of Salina. It has an elevation of . The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Out of necessity, the member schools adopted eligibility and participation rules and established authority for a Board of Control to assess penalties against schools for violations.
