South Yemen ( ar, اليمن الجنوبي, al-Yaman al-Janubiyy), officially the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (, ), also referred to as Democratic Yemen (, ) or Yemen (Aden) (, ), was a communist state that existed from 1967 to 1990 as a state in the Middle East in the southern and eastern provinces of the present-day Republic of Yemen, including the island of Socotra. South Yemen's origins can be traced to 1874 with the creation of the British Colony of Aden and the Aden Protectorate, which consisted of two-thirds of the present-day Yemen. Prior to 1937 what was to become the Colony of Aden had been governed as a part of British India, originally as the Aden Settlement subordinate to the Bombay Presidency and then as a Chief Commissioner's province. National Anthem Of Yemen
"United Republic" ( ar, الجمهورية المتحدة, al-Jomhuriyah al-Mottaḥedah) is the national anthem of Yemen. It was written by Abdollah Abdolwahâb Noʿmân and composed by ʾAyub Ṭâreš. The music was formerly used as the national anthem of South Yemen but was adopted by Yemen when the country was unified in 1990. During its usage by South Yemen from 1979 to 1990, the title was "National Anthem of People's Democratic Republic of Yemen" ( ar, النشيد الوطني لجمهورية اليمن الديمقراطية الشعبية, n-Našid al-Waṭane al-Jomhuriyat l-Yaman d-Dimoqrâṭiya š-Šaʿbiya). The South Yemen, People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (commonly referred to as South Yemen) became independent as the People's Republic of South Yemen in November 1967, after the United Kingdom, British withdrawal from the Federation of South Arabia and the Protectorate of South Arabia. In May 1990, South Yemen Yemeni unification, unified with the Yemen Arab Republic (commonly referred to as North Yemen) to form the united Yemen, Republic of Yemen. Socotra
Socotra or Soqotra (; ar, سُقُطْرَىٰ ; so, Suqadara) is an island of the Republic of Yemen in the Indian Ocean, under the ''de facto'' control of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, a secessionist participant in Yemen’s ongoing civil war. Lying between the Guardafui Channel and the Arabian Sea and near major shipping routes, Socotra is the largest of the four islands in the Socotra archipelago. Since 2013, the archipelago has constituted the Socotra Governorate. The island of Socotra represents around 95% of the landmass of the Socotra archipelago. It lies south of the Arabian Peninsula, but is considered to be part of Africa. The island is isolated and home to a high number of endemic species. Up to a third of its plant life is endemic. A communist state, also known as a Marxist–Leninist state, is a one-party state that is administered and governed by a communist party guided by Marxism–Leninism.
