South Island (rugby Union)
The South Island is a New Zealand men's domestic rugby union team selected from the South Island's players, based on where a they first played senior representative rugby. They played against the North Island in the North vs South match between 1897 and 2012. New Zealand Rugby (NZR) is the governing body of rugby union in New Zealand. It was founded in 1892 as the New Zealand Rugby Football Union (NZRFU), 12 years after the first provincial unions in New Zealand. In 1949 it became an affiliate to the International Rugby Football Board, now known as World Rugby, the governing body of rugby union for the world. Joseph Paul Tamatea Moody (born 18 September 1988) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer who plays as a prop for the Crusaders in Super Rugby and Canterbury in the Bunnings NPC. Finlay Turner Christie (born 19 September 1995) is a professional rugby union player who plays as a half-back for Super Rugby club Blues. Born in Scotland, he represents New Zealand at international level after qualifying on residency grounds.
