South Iowa Cedar League
The South Iowa Cedar League is a high school athletic conference in south central and southeastern Iowa. The conference is made up of mostly 1A schools, as well as a few 2A schools (the two smallest classes in the state). A 9-team league from the 1960s, the conference expanded to 12 teams in 1996, then dropped to 11 members when Williamsburg joined the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference in 2000. In the fall of 2014, the schools of the SICL voted to allow Colfax–Mingo to join the SICL, making it a 12-team league again. Members East Division West Division Sports Boys' sports are administered through the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and girls' sports are administered through the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Sports classes for each are based on enrollment. Football is played by districts based on their enrollment classification and geography, instead of by conference. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. As classifications vary highly across sports, they are included under the individual sport section. BGM Community School District
The Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom (BGM) Community School District, or BGM Community School, serves the towns of Brooklyn, Guernsey and Malcom and surrounding areas in eastern Poweshiek County, Iowa. The school, which serves all grade levels PreK-12 in one building, is located at 1090 Jackson Street in Brooklyn. The BGM Community and H-L-V Community School Districts have a shared learning agreement. The school's mascot is the Bears. Their colors are red and royal blue. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Eight-man Football
Eight-man football is a form of gridiron football, generally played by high schools with smaller enrollments. Eight-man football differs from the traditional 11-man game with the reduction of three players on each side of the ball and a field width that can be reduced to 40 yards, 13 1/3 yards narrower than the 53 1/3-yard 11-man field. Most states continue to play on a field 100 yards long, whereas a few states opt for 80-yard lengths. Reduced-player football, which consists of eight-man, six-man, and nine-man football has gained popularity across the United States. North Mahaska Community School District
North Mahaska Community School District is a rural public school district located in New Sharon, IA. The district is located mainly in Mahaska County, with a small portion in Poweshiek County, and serves the cities of New Sharon, Barnes City, the unincorporated communities of Lacey and Taintor, and the surrounding rural areas. Victor, Iowa
Victor is a town in Poweshiek and Iowa counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 875 in the 2020 census, a decline from the population of 952 in 2000. History Victor was laid out in the 1860s. The town was originally called Wilson, after George W. Wilson, who owned the town site. In 1872, the Moravian Church organized a mission in Victor for German-speaking settlers, and nearby organized another mission known as North English, naming this congregation after the nearby English River). The Hartwick-Ladora-Victor Community School District – often abbreviated H-L-V, or HLV – is a rural public school district headquartered in Victor, Iowa.
