South Central Conference (Illinois)
The South Central Conference (SCC) is a conference in South Central Illinois made up of ten schools. The SCC was established in 1926 with ten charter schools. The current schools are all full members of the Illinois High School Association. History Named for its location in the state of Illinois, the South Central Conference was formed in 1926 with 10 schools. The charter schools included; Carlinville, Gillespie, Hillsboro, Litchfield, Mt. Olive, Nokomis, Pana, Shelbyville, Staunton and Taylorville. Only six years into the league, however, Shelbyville would drop out in 1932 and Litchfield would follow in 1934. Benld High School would join in 1935 and the conference would stay status quo for 10 years. A wave of change occurred in 1944 as Hillsboro, Nokomis, Pana and Taylorville would all leave the South Central for the newly formed Mid State Conference. Illinois High School Association
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is an association that regulates competition of interscholastic sports and some interscholastic activities at the high school level for the state of Illinois. It is a charter member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The IHSA regulates 14 sports for boys, 15 sports for girls, and eight co-educational non-athletic activities. More than 760 public and private high schools in the state of Illinois are members of the IHSA. The Association's offices are in Bloomington, Illinois. In its over 100 years of existence, the IHSA has been at the center of many controversies. Virden is a city in Macoupin and Sangamon counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 3,425 at the 2010 census, and 3,354 at a 2018 estimate. The Macoupin County portion of Virden is part of the St. Louis, Missouri–Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Sangamon County portion is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Litchfield is a city in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,605 at the 2020 census. It is located in South Central Illinois, south of Springfield, Illinois, and part of the Metro East of St. Louis. History Litchfield was platted in October 1853, and was originally named Huntsville, Says Litchfield was laid out in "October 1953", presumably a typo of "1853".
