Montgomery County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 30,104. Its county seat is Hillsboro. History Montgomery County was formed in 1821 out of Bond and Madison counties. It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada.Allan H. Montgomery County Courthouse (Illinois)
The Montgomery County Courthouse, located in Courthouse Square in Hillsboro, is the county courthouse serving Montgomery County, Illinois. While the courthouse was originally built in 1833–35, it did not attain its current form until an extensive remodeling in 1868–71. Architect Gurdon P. Randall designed the remodeled courthouse in the Second Empire style. The courthouse's design features two towers: a square tower enclosing a staircase at the southwest corner, and a tower with a mansard roof at the southeast corner. The courthouse's cornice, which runs along the roof line and the bottom of the mansard roof, features decorative brackets. Since the renovated courthouse reopened, it has continuously served as the seat of county government functions. Interstate 55 (I-55) is a major Interstate Highway in the central United States. As with most primary Interstates that end in a five, it is a major cross-country, north–south route, connecting the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes. The highway travels from LaPlace, Louisiana, at I-10 to Chicago, Illinois, at U.S. Route 41 (US 41, Lake Shore Drive), at McCormick Place. Litchfield Municipal Airport is a public use airport located two nautical miles (3.7 km) southwest of the central business district of Litchfield, in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States.
