South American Championship 1924
The eighth edition of the South American Championship was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 12 October to 2 November 1924. Overview CONMEBOL asked the Paraguayan Football Association to organize it, but it refused because they lacked the infrastructure for such an event. However, the association did organize it, but by way of honouring the recent Paris 1924 gold-medallists, Uruguay, it was held there. The participating countries were Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Brazil withdrew from the tournament. Pedro Petrone
Pedro Petrone Schiavone (11 May 1905 – 13 December 1964) was a Uruguayan footballer who played in the role of striker. His nickname was ''Artillero'', meaning artilleryman or gunner, in reference to his amazing goalscoring prowess. Club career Throughout his career, Petrone played for Nacional, where he won two National Tournaments (1924, 1934), and in Italy with Fiorentina, where he played 44 games and scored 37 goals; he was the top goalscorer in Serie A during the 1931–32 season). Whilst in Italy, Petrone was timed in the hundred metres at 11 seconds and was said to be the fastest player in the League. International career A two-time gold medalist in the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics, Petrone also won the 1930 FIFA World Cup with Uruguay. Luis Carlos Fanta Tomaszewski (21 August 1890 – 8 December 1964), known as Carlos Fanta, was a Chilean football player, manager, referee, director of football, journalist, and pharmacist. Early years Fanta belonged to a German-Polish family. Both his father, Carlos Sr., and his mother, Alma, were distinguished professors who came to Chile in 1888 recruited by the President of Chile José Manuel Balmaceda along with their four children: Margarita, Olga, Federico and Kurt. David Arellano
David Alfonso Arellano Moraga (29 July 1901 – 3 May 1927) was a Chilean footballer and founder of the Colo Colo football club. A winger, he scored in the 1926 South American Championship (Copa América) and is considered one of the best Chilean football players in history. Career Arellano was born in Santiago, Chile on 29 July 1901. His professional debut came aged 17 for Chilean football club Magallanes in 1919. In 1925 he along with other members parted from Magallanes football club to form a new club which came to be known in Chile as Colo Colo. Arellano is attributed with showcasing the bicycle kick or in Chile known as the Chilena through footballing tours that were conducted in Europe. Ildefonsus or Ildephonsus (rarely ''Ildephoses'' or ''Ildefonse''; Spanish: San Ildefonso; c. 8 December 607 – 23 January 667) was a scholar and theologian who served as the metropolitan Bishop of Toledo for the last decade of his life. José Pedro Cea (1 September 1900 – 18 September 1970) was a Uruguayan football player as a striker and coach. Playing career Club career Cea was born in MontevideoMontevideo. At club level, he played for Nacional, where he won several Uruguayan championships. International career Cea made his debut for Uruguay in November 1923. He was part of Uruguay's championship-winning team at the 1923 South American Championship. In 1924 Cea again won a continental championship as Uruguay won their fifth title at the 1924 tournament.
