South Africa At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
South Africa competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It was South Africa's 14th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. Para-swimmer Christian Sadie and netballer Bongiwe Msomi were the country's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. Durban initially secured the hosting rights after Edmonton withdrew from the bidding contest, which would have led to the Games being hosted on African soil for the first time. However, the South African government subsequently claimed it would not be possible to host the Games because of financial constraints; as a result, the CGF stripped Durban of their hosting rights in March 2017. South African Sports Confederation And Olympic Committee
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) ( af, Suid-Afrikaanse Sportkonfederasie en Olimpiese Komitee) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for South Africa, and the responsible body for South Africa at the Commonwealth Games. Pieter Coetze (born 13 May 2004) is a South African swimmer. He is the African record holder in the long course and short course 100 metre backstroke and short course 50 metre backstroke. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke, the silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke, and the bronze medal in the 200 metre backstroke.
