Sounds Australia
Sounds Australia is an Australian organisation established to assist Australian musicians become established overseas. Set up in 2009, Sounds Australia began as an initiative of the Australia Council for the Arts, APRA AMCOS, and the federal government and has assisted artists such as Flume, Chet Faker, Gossling, and Courtney Barnett find greater impact outside of Australia. In 2015 the government made changes to their funding which led to uncertainty over the organisation's future, with their funding due to run out on December 31, 2016. In November 2016 Sounds Australia announced the government had committed to fund them for the next four years, with funding also contributed by other organisations. They received further funding from ARIA in 2020. South By Southwest
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. There was no in-person event in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austin, Texas; both years, there was a smaller online event instead. Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. Middle Kids are an alternative indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. Cable Ties (band)
Cable Ties are a punk rock band from Melbourne, Australia formed in 2015. Guitarist and singer Jenny McKechnie moved to Melbourne from Bendigo with a background in folk music, and was introduced to the city's burgeoning punk music scene by a friend, Grace Kindellan, who formed a band (Wet Lips) with McKechnie on bass guitar. McKechnie joined bassist Nick Brown and drummer Shauna Boyle to form Cable Ties in 2015, with the band naming itself after cable ties in reference to the band's "very physical but functional" sound.
