Sortedam Dossering
Sortedam Dossering is a street that follows the western shore of Sortedam Lake, from Nørrebrogade in the south to Østerbrogade in the north, in central Copenhagen, Denmark. The section north of Helgesensgade is closed to cars. The section from Nørrebrogade to Fredensgade is in Nørrebro while the section from Fredensgade to Østerbrogade belongs to Østerbro. The southwestern continuation of the street, along Peblinge Lake, with only the short stretch between Nørrebrogade and Baggesensgade open to car traffic, is called Peblinge Dossering. Collectively Sortedam Dossering and Peblinge Dossering are known as Dosseringen (definite form). The path along the shore of St. Jørgen's Lake, the lake furthest to the south, is called ''Svineryggen'' ('The Rack of Pork'). Neon Sign
In the signage industry, neon signs are electric signs lighted by long luminous gas-discharge tubes that contain rarefied neon or other gases. They are the most common use for neon lighting, which was first demonstrated in a modern form in December 1910 by Georges Claude at the Paris Motor Show. While they are used worldwide, neon signs were popular in the United States from about the 1920s to 1950s. Sonja Ferlov Mancoba
Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1 November 1911 – 17 December 1984) was a Danish avant-garde sculptor. Biography She attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was affiliated with the CoBrA group, along with her husband, South African artist Ernest Mancoba. Ferlov Mancoba was trained as a painter. She studied under Bizzie Høyer from 1930 to 1932 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1933 to 1935. She debuted at the annual Artists' Autumn Salon (Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling) in 1935 with two plaster sculptures, ''Bird with Young'' and ''Two Living Beings''. From the mid-1930s she was involved with the artists' group and art journal ''Linien'' (The Line, 1934–39), which was the first conduit of French Surrealism to Denmark. Søren Georg Jensen
Søren Georg Jensen (4 October 1917 – 20 September 1982) was a Danish silversmith and sculptor. Son of the noted silversmith Georg Jensen, he was the artistic director of the Georg Jensen Silversmithy from 1962 to 1974. Early life and education Born in Copenhagen, Jensen was trained as a silversmith by his father, Georg Jensen. He then attended Bizzie Høyer's drawing school (1931–36) before studying sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Einar Utzon-Frank (1941–45). In 1946, he completed his studies under the Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine in Paris. Hermann Baagøe Storck
Hermann Baagøe Storck (18 February 1839 – 4 December 1922) was a Danish architect and heraldist. As an architect, he is mainly known for the restoration of historic buildings. Among his own designs, his building for the Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen is the most widely known. Early life and career Hermann Baagøe Storck was born on 18 February 1839 in the small town of Skibby on the Hornsherred peninsula, west of Copenhagen. Soldenfeldts Stiftelse
Soldenfeldts Stiftelse is a listed property overlooking Sortedam Lake in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. History Soldenfeldts Stiftelse was founded by the brothers Joseph and F. W. Soldenfeldt. The property on Sortedam Dossering was built in 1893 and 1894 as a home for elderly (+60) women teachers, house keepers, seamstresses and maids. Its architect was Hermann Baagøe Storck. Architecture The four-winged property is built in red brick in a style inspired by Italian medieval and Renaissance architecture. Its front on Sortedam Doseringen has a balcony above the central main gateway. Decorations include 12 terracotta medallions surrounded by laurel wreaths. Ludvig Knudsen
Ludvig Harald Knudsen (18 August 1843 – 16 March 1924) was a Historicism (art), Historicist Denmark, Danish architect. He mainly designed churches. Biography Ludvig Knudsen was born in Copenhagen. He was the son of Jens Christian Knudsen (1801-1856) and Johanne F. Jakobsen (1811-1866). He apprenticed as a carpenter and was then admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1860 where he studied under Gustav Friedrich Hetsch. After his graduation in 1869, he worked for both Christian Hansen (architect), Christian Hansen and Ferdinand Meldahl. In 1871 he assumed a position as Building Inspector in Copenhagen and remained in this position until 1889. Christianshvile
Christianshvile is a late 19th-century villa located at Sortedam Dossering 55 in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The main building, a stable and a carriage house were listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1980. History The 11th Bleaching Pond Lot (later Blegdamsvej 82 and now Sortedams Dossering 55 and Ryesgade 48) of the 24 bleaching pond lots that lined the west side of Sortedam Lake was in around 1770 home to a ship sails factory owned by sailmaker Christian Brenøe (born c. 1734). Brenøe took over the deliveries of ship sails to the Royal Danish Dockyard at Nyholm when the ship sails factory at Wodroffsgaard ran into difficulties in the late 1780s. Brenøe was in 1805 succeeded by his son Peter Christian Brenøe (1770-1832) who was unable to continue his father's success.
