Sophie Tatischeff
Sophie Catherine Tatischeff (23 October 1946 - 27 October 2001) was a French film editor and director. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Tatischeff was the daughter of Jacques Tati. She began her career as assistant editor on her father's 1967 film ''Play Time''. She also edited both ''Trafic'' (1971) and ''Parade'' (1974). After Tati's death she produced a colour version of his 1949 feature '' Jour de fête'' using previously unusable colour film elements shot simultaneously with the monochrome stock. In 2001, she also re-constructed his 1978 short film '' Forza Bastia''. Tatischeff died in Paris from lung cancer in 2001. Neuilly-sur-Seine (; literally 'Neuilly on Seine'), also known simply as Neuilly, is a commune in the department of Hauts-de-Seine in France, just west of Paris. Immediately adjacent to the city, the area is composed of mostly select residential neighbourhoods, as well as many corporate headquarters and a handful of foreign embassies. It is the wealthiest and most expensive suburb of Paris. Jacques Tati
Jacques Tati (; born Jacques Tatischeff, ; 9 October 1907 – 5 November 1982) was a French mime, film-maker, actor and screenwriter. In an ''Entertainment Weekly'' poll of the Greatest Movie Directors, he was voted the 46th greatest of all time (out of 50), although he directed only six feature-length films. Tati's '' Playtime'' (1967) ranked 43rd in the 2012 ''Sight & Sound'' critics' poll of the greatest films ever made. As David Bellos puts it, "Tati, from ''l'Ecole des facteurs'' to ''Playtime'', is the epitome of what an ''auteur'' is (in film theory) supposed to be: the controlling mind behind a vision of the world on film". Play Time
''Playtime'' (stylized as ''PlayTime'' and also written as ''Play Time'') is a 1967 comedy film directed by Jacques Tati. In the film, Tati again plays Monsieur Hulot, the popular character who had central roles in his earlier films ''Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot'' and ''Mon Oncle''. However, Tati grew ambivalent towards playing Hulot as a recurring central role during production; he appears intermittently in ''Playtime'', alternating between central and supporting roles. Shot on 70 mm film, 70 mm, the work is notable for its enormous Set construction, set, which Tati had built specially for the film, as well as Tati's trademark use of subtle yet complex visual comedy supported by creative sound effects; dialogue is frequently reduced to the level of background noise. ''Trafic'' (''Traffic'') is a 1971 Italian-French comedy film directed by Jacques Tati. ''Trafic'' was the last film to feature Tati's famous character of Monsieur Hulot, and followed the vein of earlier Tati films that lampooned modern society. Tati's use of the word "trafic" instead of the usual French word for car traffic (''la circulation'') may derive from a desire to use the same franglais he used when he called his previous film '' Playtime'', and the primary meaning of ''trafic'' is "exchange of goods", rather than "traffic" per se. The word "Trafic" was subsequently used for a light utility vehicle model manufactured by Renault starting in 1981. ''Parade'' is a French comedy film and was the final film directed by Jacques Tati. ''Parade'' was made for Swedish television in 1974 and featured Tati as a clown in a circus. ''Jour de fête'' (''The Big Day'') is a 1949 French comedy film starring Jacques Tati in his feature film directorial debut as an inept and easily distracted mailman in a backward French village. Shot largely in and around Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, where Tati had lived during the Occupation, most of the actors were unknown and villagers served as extras. Plot On a public holiday, a young boy watches a travelling fair arrive in his village of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre. "Forza Bastia" is a 26-minute film documenting a UEFA Cup match between PSV Eindhoven and French club SC Bastia at the Furiani Stadium in 1978. Jacques Tati directed the piece at the request of friend Gilberto Trigano – the President of the Bastia club at that time. ''Un flic'' ( en, A Cop; also known as ''Dirty Money'') is a 1972 French crime film, the last directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. It stars Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve and Richard Crenna.
