Sonja Van Der Bliek
Sonja van der Bliek is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender, currently playing with Brynäs IF in the SDHL. Career By the time she graduated, she held 12 individual programme records, and was named team MVP in her final year. She was nominated for the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. In 2020, she was inducted into the RPI Athletics Hall of Fame. After graduation, she signed with the Brampton Thunder in the CWHL. In 2016, she left Brampton to sign with the Toronto Furies, where she spent two years as backup before earning the starting job for the 2017–18 season. Across six years in the CWHL, van der Bliek played in 54 games. Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award
The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given to the top female college ice hockey player in the United States. The award is presented during the women's annual ice hockey championship, the Frozen Four. The award was first presented in 1998. The award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier-Sandt, a four-year varsity letter winner and All Ivy League honoree for the Princeton University women's ice hockey team from 1981 through 1986. She also played field hockey and lacrosse. She died on February 15, 1990 at the age of 28 from a rare blood disease. Patty was the daughter of Heisman Trophy winner Dick Kazmaier. RPI Engineers Women's Ice Hockey
The RPI Engineers women's ice hockey team are a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women's college ice hockey program that represents Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Engineers are a member of the ECAC Hockey (ECACHL) conference. They play at the Houston Field House in Troy, New York. History The Engineers women's hockey program began for the 1995–96 season, playing at the NCAA Division III level in ECAC East. In their final season in Division III, the 2004–05 season, the Engineers qualified to the championship game of the ECAC East Tournament. It was their second consecutive season in the championship. That season, RPI had 21 wins, compared to only 6 losses and a league record of 17–2–0. In addition, the Engineers were ranked second in the nation in scoring defense (allowing only 1.22 goals per game).
