Soniia Cheah
Soniia Cheah Su Ya (Chinese:谢抒芽, born 19 June 1993) is a former Malaysian badminton player. She is the younger sister of Lyddia Cheah who is also a professional badminton player. Career In her junior career, she represented Malaysia at the 2009, 2010, and 2011 Asian Junior Championships, World Junior Championships, 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, and 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games. She won her first international title at the 2016 Belgian International tournament. At the Southeast Asian Games, she won the mixed team bronze medal in 2011, also the silver medals in 2017 in the women's singles and team event. Cheah competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She founded a badminton academy, Sunheart Badminton with her sister, Lyddia in April 2022. At 13 December 2022, she announced her retirement from badminton due to the pain from the relapse of her bone spur injury which she has been enduring since 2013. Badminton World Federation
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). In 1981 the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF). Lyddia Cheah
Lyddia Cheah Li Ya (; born 8 September 1989, also known as ''Lyddia Cheah Yi Yu'') is a Malaysian badminton player. Her younger sister, Soniia Cheah Su Ya is also a badminton player. In 2010, she competed at the Commonwealth Games in India. Career In 2008, she became the runner-up at the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold tournament. She was defeated by Saina Nehwal of India in the final. In 2009, she won a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games in the women's singles event. She was a part of the Malaysian team squad that won team gold at the 2009 Southeast Asian Games in the women's team event and 2010 Commonwealth Games in the mixed team event. In 2012, she won the Maybank Malaysia International Challenge tournament. She lived up to expectations when she easily overpowered Singaporean seventh seed Liang Xiaoyu. The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The games were held in the years, mid-way between when the Commonwealth Games are held, until 2008. They continued to be held every four years, but in the year ''after'' the Commonwealth Games are held, from 2011 to 2015.
