Sonia L'Heureux
Sonia L'Heureux is a Canadian civil servant, who was the Parliamentary Librarian of Canada from 2012 to 2018."Meet Canada’s first female Parliamentary librarian: Sonia L’Heureux". ''The Hill Times'', July 9, 2012. She was the first woman ever named to the position. Originally from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, L'Heureux joined the Canadian civil service in 1987. She worked for Human Resources and Social Development Canada, Finance Canada, Environment Canada and Energy, Mines and Resources Canada as a policy analyst before joining the Library of Parliament as associate librarian in 2008. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the Université de Montréal. Parliamentary Librarian Of Canada
The Parliamentary Librarian of Canada is one of the key officials of the Parliament of Canada. While the Library of Parliament was created shortly after 1867, the role of librarian was not created until 1871 to be in charge of management and control of the library of Parliament. Control and direction of the library is provided by the Speakers of the House of Commons and the Senate. The current role was created from the merger of the Parliamentary Librarians of the Provinces of Canada (1840-1867) and those of the Legislature of Upper and Lower Canada (1790s). The Library of Parliament (french: Bibliothèque du Parlement) is the main information repository and research resource for the Parliament of Canada. The main branch of the library sits at the rear of the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. The library survived the Centre Block#Great fire, 1916 fire that destroyed Centre Block. The library has been augmented and renovated several times since its construction in 1876, the last between 2002 and 2006, though the form and decor remain essentially authentic. The building today serves as a National symbols of Canada, Canadian icon, and appears on the obverse of the Canadian ten-dollar bill.
