Sonia Ganassi
Sonia Ganassi (born 1966) is an Italian mezzo-soprano. Born in Reggio Emilia, she made her debut as Rosina in Rossini’s ''The Barber of Seville'' in Rome in 1992. She has performed in many of the world’s famous opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Royal Opera House in London and the Teatro alla Scala, Milan. She is best known for her work in the bel canto repertoire. Her roles in Rossini operas also include soprano parts, such as Elisabetta in ''Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra'' ( ROF, 2004), Elena in ''La donna del lago (Lady of the Lake)'' (Rossini in Wildbad, 2006), ''Ermione'' (ROF, 2008), and Elcia in ''Mosè in Egitto'' (ROF, 2011).In 2010 she also debuted the soprano title role in Handel's '' Rodelinda'' at the 36th Festival della Valle d'Itria, Martina Franca. A mezzo-soprano or mezzo (; ; meaning "half soprano") is a type of classical female singing voice whose vocal range lies between the soprano and the contralto voice types. ''Ermione'' (1819) is a tragic opera (azione tragica) in two acts by Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by Andrea Leone Tottola, based on the play ''Andromaque'' by Jean Racine. Performance history 19th century ''Ermione'' was first performed at the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, on 27 March 1819. For reasons that are as yet unclear, the opera was withdrawn on 19 April after only seven performances, and was not seen again until over a hundred years after Rossini's death. ''Norma'' () is a ''tragedia lirica'' or opera in two acts by Vincenzo Bellini with libretto by Felice Romani after the play ''Norma, ou L'infanticide'' (''Norma, or The Infanticide'') by Alexandre Soumet. It was first produced at La Scala in Milan on 26 December 1831. The opera is regarded as a leading example of the bel canto genre, and the soprano prayer "Casta diva" in act 1 is a famous piece. Vincenzo Bellini
Vincenzo Salvatore Carmelo Francesco Bellini (; 3 November 1801 – 23 September 1835) was a Sicilian opera composer, who was known for his long-flowing melodic lines for which he was named "the Swan of Catania". Many years later, in 1898, Giuseppe Verdi "praised the broad curves of Bellini's melody: 'there are extremely long melodies as no-one else had ever made before'." Teatro Lirico Di Cagliari
The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari is an opera house in Cagliari. It is the main theatre of the city. The Teatro Lirico was built in order to provide a large theatre to the city. After the destruction of the ''Teatro Civico'', damaged by the shelling of Cagliari operated by the Allies during World War II, and the destruction of the ''Politeama Regina Margherita'' due to a fire in 1942, after the war there was not a suitable theatre in Cagliari. Sir Antonio Pappano (born 30 December 1959) is an English-Italian conductor and pianist. He is currently music director of the Royal Opera House and of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
