Sommer Contemporary Art
Sommer Contemporary Art is a Contemporary Art gallery, owned by Irit Fine Sommer, and based on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv, Israel. The gallery is considered to be among the most influential in Israel for contemporary art. It was first opened in a small space on Rothschild 64 in 1999. Since its opening the purpose of the gallery was the promotion of contemporary Israeli artists in the international art scene, as well as representing and exhibiting international artists in Israel and abroad. In November 2005 the gallery moved to a new space on Rothschild 13, in one of the historic buildings of Tel Aviv. Sommer Contemporary Art is representing such artists as Adi Nes, Yehudit Sasportas, Yael Bartana, Thomas Zipp, Greogor Hildebrandt, and Ugo Rondinone. Tom Burr
Tom Burr (born 1963) is an American conceptual artist. Burr's artwork explores the relationships between, "the built environment, subjectivity, and historical persona". He is based in New York City. Life Burr was born in 1963 in New Haven, Connecticut. Burr attended the Educational Center for the Arts high school, a multi-arts program taught in part by Yale University graduate students. It is here that Burr became aware of and developed an interest in Minimal and post-Minimalist artists, including Robert Smithson, Dan Graham, Eva Hesse and Gordon Matta Clark. Burr's senior thesis work reflected these influences, by merging sculptural elements with brief poetic texts. Simultaneously, Burr’s collage based work began at this time. Sharon Yaari ( he, שרון יערי; born 1966) is an Israeli photographer. Biography Sharon Yaari is an Israeli photographer and educator, mostly known for his landscapes, made using traditional Photographic film, film photography technic. Yaari graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 1994. He received Master of Philosophy from Faculty of Art Design and Technology of Derby University in 2002. Paloma Varga Weisz
Paloma Varga Weisz (born 1966) is a contemporary artist living in Germany, best known for her sculptures and drawings. In 2012, six of her drawings were acquired by and exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art. She lives and works in Düsseldorf. Life Paloma Varga Weisz was trained as a woodcarver from 1987–90 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From 1990 to 1998 she studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Tony Cragg and Gerhard Merz. Efrat Shvily ( he, אפרת שוילי, born 1955) is an Israeli artist based in Jerusalem. She has exhibited her work in the 50th Venice Biennale and the 8th International Istanbul Biennial, both in 2003. Wilhelm Sasnal
Wilhelm Sasnal (born December 29, 1972) is a Polish painter, photographer, poster artist, illustrator and filmmaker. Sasnal graduated in painting from the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in 1999. He is considered one of the most prominent and internationally successful Polish contemporary artists. Early life and career Wilhelm Sasnal was born in Tarnów, Poland, in 1972. Muntean/Rosenblum is a collaborative artist duo composed of Markus Muntean (born 1962 in Graz, Austria) and Adi Rosenblum (born 1962 in Haifa, Israel). They have been collaborating since 1992. Tal R
Tal Rosenzweig (born 1967), known as Tal R, is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. Life and work Tal R was born in Israel and moved to Denmark with his family when he was one year old. He studied at Billedskolen, Copenhagen, from 1986 to 1988 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1994 to 2000. Tal R's painting style is described as "kolbojnik", which means "left-overs", a Hebrew word for "jack-of-all-trades." Chris Martin (born 1954) is an American abstract painter who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and the Catskills region of New York State. Michal Helfman
Michal Helfman ( he, מיכל הלפמן; born 1973 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli artist living and working in Tel Aviv, Israel. She is a multidisciplinary artist working in various disciplines including sculpture, architecture, video and drawings. In order to demonstrate the relations between the reviled and the hidden forces working within society and culture, she has developed an installation platform based on the back-stage front-stage structure of the theatrical stage as one, which brings together simultaneously both the real and the symbolic. Lyle Ashton Harris (born February 6, 1965) is an American artist who has cultivated a diverse artistic practice ranging from photographic media, collage, installation art and performance art. Harris uses his works to comment on societal constructs of sexuality and race, while exploring his own identity as a queer, black man.
