Somerset Land District
Somerset Land District is one of the twenty land districts of Tasmania which are part of the Cadastral divisions of Tasmania. It was formerly one of the 18 counties of Tasmania. The original parishes On 15 January 1836 George Arthur, the Lieutenant Governor of the Island of Van Diemen's Land proclaimed, via The Hobart Town Courier, the first counties and parishes to be surveyed in the colony. The County of Somerset, bounded on the north by a portion of the river South Esk, on the east by the Eastern tier to the Macquarie river, and thence by a line to Beaumont's rivulet, and by that rivulet to its junction with the Little Swanport river; on the south by the Little Swanport river, and by the southern boundaries of the parishes of Brisbane, Oatlands, Dulverton and Exmouth to the river Clyde, and on the west by a portion of the river Clyde, by lakes Crescent and Sorell, and by a line from lake Sorell to Wood's lake, and thence by the Lake river to its junction with the South Esk. ... Llewellyn, Tasmania is a small village in Somerset Land District, on the road from Campbell Town, Tasmania to the eastern coast, near the South Esk River. Oatlands, Tasmania
Oatlands is an important historical village on the shores of Lake Dulverton in the centre of Tasmania, Australia. Oatlands is located 84 km north of Hobart and 115 km south of Launceston on the Midland Highway. At the 2016 census, Oatlands had a population of 683. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, and many of them were built by convict labour. Campbell Town is a town in Tasmania, Australia, on the Midland Highway. At the 2021 census, the town had a population of 823. History Traditional owners of the Campbell Town area The traditional custodians of the Campbell Town area were the Tyerrernotepanner (chera-noti-pahner) Clan of the North Midlands Nation. The Tyerrernotepanner were a nomadic people who traversed country from the Central Plateau to the Eastern Tiers but were recorded as inhabiting 'resorts' around present day Campbell Town, lagoons near present-day Cleveland and Conara and the southern banks of the South Esk River. The colonial name for this clan was the Stony Creek Tribe, named after a small southern tributary of the South Esk at Llewellyn.
