Andover, Tasmania
Andover is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Southern Midlands in the Central LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about east of the town of Oatlands. The 2021 census recorded a population of 39 for Andover. It consists of mostly farming land and several historic pastoral properties. Andover covers an area of 73.446 square kilometres. History Andover was gazetted as a locality in 1974. Eastern Marshes Siding Post Office opened in 1888, and was renamed Andover in 1893. It closed in 1966. It was historically a village on the Little Swan River, in the county of Somerset, Tasmania about 62 km (50 miles) from Hobart. It was named by Lieutenant Francis Tabart in 1831. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 25,422,788 – an increase of 8.6 per cent or 2,020,896 people over the previous 2016 census. Results from the 2021 census were released to the public on 28 June 2022 from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website. Oatlands, Tasmania
Oatlands is an important historical village on the shores of Lake Dulverton in the centre of Tasmania, Australia. Oatlands is located 84 km north of Hobart and 115 km south of Launceston on the Midland Highway. At the 2016 census, Oatlands had a population of 683. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, and many of them were built by convict labour. It is the largest town in the Southern Midlands Council area and is surrounded by rich agricultural land. History Oatlands is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements and was named by Governor Macquarie after an English town in the county of Surrey in 1821. Parattah
Parattah is a small township in Tasmania, located approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) southeast of the town of Oatlands. At the 2011 census, Parattah had a population of 360. The area is home to about 100 families, and contains many historic buildings, such as a farmhouse which was once home to Hudson Fysh, one of the founders of Qantas, and a historic railway station. The main street contains a number of attractive dwellings dating from the town's heyday, some of which are currently undergoing restoration. The village retains the original general store, the impressive Tudor style 'Parattah Hotel' and a number of historic churches. The first post office serving the township opened 1 June 1879 and was originally named 'Oatlands Station' until it was renamed Parattah with effect from 1 January 1882.
