"Someone to Hold" is a song co-written and performed by American contemporary R&B singer Trey Lorenz. It is the opening track from his eponymous debut album and was issued as the album's first single. The song was his only hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 as a solo artist, peaking at #19 in 1992. European releases of the song were backed with " Wanna Girl," Lorenz' original version of a song which became an international hit in 1993 for Jeremy Jordan. Trey Lorenz (born Lloyd Lorenz Smith; January 19, 1969) is an American R&B singer-songwriter and record producer. He was born in Florence, South Carolina and is a graduate of Wilson High School. Lorenz is best known for his duet with recording artist Mariah Carey on " I'll Be There", a cover of the 1970 number-one Jackson 5 recording of the same name. The record topped the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and R&B singles chart a second time in 1992 and earned Lorenz and Carey both a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. They would later perform the song again at the funeral of Michael Jackson on July 7, 2009. The European Dance Radio Chart (also known as European Dance Radio Top 25) was a weekly chart compiled by pan-European magazine ''Music & Media''. Wilfred "Will" Downing (born November 29, 1963) is an American singer and songwriter. He is married to singer Audrey Wheeler, who was a member of the R&B group Unlimited Touch. Biography Downing enrolled in Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York. Alumni of the school include record label executives Clive Davis (who founded Arista Records), Kedar Massenburg (who later became president of Motown), Stephanie Mills and singer Barbra Streisand.
