Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital () is a hospital located in Thon Buri District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is a military hospital operated by the Naval Medical Department (NMD), The Royal Thai Navy particularly for personnel of the Royal Thai Navy, but also for the general public. It is also the location of the headquarters of the NMD. It has a CPIRD Medical Education Center which trains medical students for the Faculty of Medicine, Burapha University. It is an affiliated teaching hospital of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. It is also a residency training center for several specialty, for instance, Surgery, Emergency medicine and Maritime medicine. History Construction of the hospital began in 1952, initiated by Admiral Sindh Kamalanavin, then commander-in-chief and Admiral Lek Sumitr, then chief doctor of the Royal Thai Navy. The Royal Thai Navy ( Abrv: RTN, ทร.; th, กองทัพเรือไทย, ) is the naval warfare force of Thailand. Established in 1906, it was modernised by the Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartiwongse (1880–1923) who is known as the father of the Royal Navy. It has a structure that includes the naval fleet, Royal Thai Marine Corps, and Air and Coastal Defence Command. The RTN headquarters is at Sattahip Naval Base. Mongkut ( th, มงกุฏ; 18 October 18041 October 1868) was the fourth monarch of Siam (Thailand) under the House of Chakri, titled Rama IV. He ruled from 1851 to 1868. Queen Sirikit ( th, สิริกิติ์; ; ); born ''Mom Rajawongse'' Sirikit Kitiyakara ( th, สิริกิติ์ กิติยากร; ; 12 August 1932) is the queen mother of Thailand. Pinklao ( th, ปิ่นเกล้า) (September 4, 1808 – January 7, 1866) was the viceroy of Siam. He was the younger brother of Mongkut, King Rama IV, who crowned him as a monarch with equal honor to himself. Early life Prince Chutamani was born on September 4, 1808, as a son of Prince Isarasundhorn and Princess Bunrod at the Phra Racha Wang Derm or Thonburi Palace. Prince Chutamani also had an elder brother—Prince Mongkut—who was seven years older. In 1809, Prince Isarasundhorn was crowned as Rama II and his mother became Queen Sri Suriyendra. They all moved to the Grand Palace. The government of Rama II, however, was dominated by ''Kromma Meun'' Jessadabodindra, his son with Sri Sulalai. Thon Buri ( th, ธนบุรี, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. On the west bank of Chao Phraya River, it was once part of Thon Buri province. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Bangkok Yai, Phra Nakhon (across Chao Phraya River), Khlong San, Bang Kho Laem (across Chao Phraya), Rat Burana, Chom Thong, and Phasi Charoen.
