Solicitor-General Of Queensland
The Solicitor-General of Queensland, known informally as the Solicitor-General, is the state's Second Law Officer, and the deputy of the Attorney-General. The Solicitor-General can exercise the powers of the Attorney-General in their absence. The Solicitor-General acts alongside the Crown Advocate and Crown Solicitor, and serves as one of the legal and constitutional advisers of the Crown and its government in the Australian state of Queensland. The Solicitor-General is addressed in court as "Mr/Ms Solicitor". Despite the title, the position may only be filled by a barrister of at least ten years standing, for a period of five years. The inaugural Solicitor-General was Thomas Byrnes, who served from 12 August 1890 to 13 March 1893. The position was then vacant until 1922, when William Webb was appointed. The governor of Queensland is the representative in the state of Queensland of the monarch of Australia. In an analogous way to the governor-general of Australia at the national level, the governor Governors of the Australian states, performs constitutional and ceremonial functions at the state level. In most common law jurisdictions, the attorney general or attorney-general (sometimes abbreviated AG or Atty.-Gen) is the main legal advisor to the government. The plural is attorneys general. Crown advocate is a title used in some former British colonies (and until recently in Britain) for a government prosecutor. In former British Colonies and certain British extraterritorial courts the title is (or was) used by the senior government advocate. William Webb (judge)
Sir William Flood Webb (21 January 1887 – 11 August 1972) was a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. He was President of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, common known as the Tokyo trial, after the end of World War II. Personal William Flood Webb was born in Brisbane on 21 January 1887. He was educated at St Mary's School in Warwick, Queensland. He studied at the University of Queensland, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws. On 4 June 1913, Webb was admitted to the Queensland Bar, after scoring a very high 71.5% on the bar examination on 20 May. On 17 March 1917, he married Beatrice Agnew at the Sacred Heart Church in Sandgate. He died in Brisbane on 11 August 1972. Hubert James Hungerford Henchman (29 August 1876-18 February 1963) was an Australian barrister and public servant who served as the Solicitor-General of Queensland from 5 August 1937 to 31 December 1945. Henchman also served as the Crown Solicitor of Queensland from 2 March 1923 to 4 August 1937. The Supreme Court of Queensland is the highest court in the Australian State of Queensland. It was formerly the Brisbane Supreme Court, in the colony of Queensland. The original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court allows its trial division to hear civil law (common law), civil matters involving claims of more than 750,000; criminal law, criminal matters involving serious offences (including murder and manslaughter); and matters arising under the ''Corporations Act 2001'' (Cth) and cross-vesting legislation. Patrick Anthony Keane (born 26 October 1952) is a former Justice of the High Court of Australia and a former Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia.
