Solex (musician)
Liesbeth Esselink (born 14 August 1965), known by her stage name Solex, is a Dutch musician based in Amsterdam. Her music is a light-hearted amalgamation of pop music, electronica and sampling. Overview After singing in a new wave band and performing as a member of the Dutch indie/noise pop group Sonetic Vet, Esselink began the Solex project in order to give herself a more complete and fulfilling musical outlet. The name is taken from the French moped manufacturer Solex. Utilizing the records in her own record store, she assembled her music on an antique 8-track recorder, singing original lyrics over her musical creations. The first album, '' Solex vs. the Hitmeister'', was cobbled together using samples from albums that Esselink had been unable to sell in her store. Later albums would see her assembling tracks with samples she had informally recorded at live performances in addition to sampling records from her collection. Gerling
Gerling were an Australian electronica, alternative rock trio formed in 1993. From early 1997 the members were Darren Cross on guitar and lead vocals, Presser (real name Paul Towner) on drums and Burke Reid on guitar and vocals. Their second album, ''When Young Terrorists Chase the Sun'' (September 2001), reached the ARIA Albums Chart top50. It provided a top50 single, "Dust Me Selecta" (August 2001). Jon Spencer
Jon Spencer (born February 5, 1965) is an American singer, composer and guitarist. He has been involved in multiple musical acts, such as Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, Heavy Trash and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. History Jon Spencer was born on 5 February 1965 in Hanover, New Hampshire, to a university professor and a cardiology technician. He attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where he was part of the noise rock band Shithaus, which included future Cop Shoot Cop vocalist Tod Ashley. The band was short lived and had a musical style reminiscent of the industrial music of Einstürzende Neubauten. He moved to Washington, D.C., and formed Pussy Galore, who quickly relocated to New York. He is also known for bringing attention to and popularizing the blues artist R. L. In The Fishtank
In the Fishtank was a series of EPs released by Konkurrent, an independent music distributor in the Netherlands. For the project, Konkurrent invited one or two bands to record and gave them two days studio time. The first four releases were recorded by individual bands, but eight of the last ten of them were the result of two bands (three in one case) teaming up to record. There were plans for more according to their website, but no new releases have come since ITF 15 in 2009. ''Pick Up'' is the second studio album by Solex. It was released via Matador Records on September 14, 1999. It peaked at number 34 on CMJ's Radio 200 chart. As with her previous album '' Solex vs. the Hitmeister'' (1998), ''Pick Up'' is an art pop album that uses samples "in ways that both boggle and seduce". Voorschoten () is a village and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland.
