Sol Phryne
''Sol Phryne'' was a ferry of Sol Maritime Services Ltd. She was bought by the Palestine Liberation Organisation and sunk on 16 February 1988. ''Sol Phryne'' was built in Japan in 1948 as ''Taisetsu Maru''. From 1967 to 1974, she was owned by Efthymiades Line and used for regular ferry duties between Greek islands as ''Eolis''. In 1974, she was purchased by Sol Maritime Services Ltd., renamed ''Sol Phryne'' and was then used in the Middle East, notably evacuating Palestinian guerrillas from Beirut in 1982. She was sunk during an attempt to ferry Palestinian deportees to Haifa, Israel. Voyage The 6,151-ton ''Sol Phryne'' was purchased in some secrecy by the Palestine Liberation Organization and renamed ''Al Awda'' ("the Return"). Limpet Mine
A limpet mine is a type of naval mine attached to a target by magnets. It is so named because of its superficial similarity to the shape of the limpet, a type of sea snail that clings tightly to rocks or other hard surfaces. A swimmer or diver may attach the mine, which is usually designed with hollow compartments to give the mine just slight negative buoyancy, making it easier to handle underwater. Types of fuses Usually limpet mines are set off by a time fuse. They may also have an anti-handling device, making the mine explode if removed from the hull by enemy divers or by explosions. Haim Corfu ( he, חיים קורפו; 6 January 1921 – 23 February 2015) was an Israeli politician, and earlier Irgun member and assassin. Biography Corfu was born in Jerusalem in 1921. He studied in religious schools and yeshivas and attended a religious teachers seminary. In 1937 he joined the Irgun and was a member of the Irgun command in Jerusalem. During that time he also played as a striker for Beitar Jerusalem. He used his training as an electrician to design explosives.
