Stryi ( uk, Стрий, ; pl, Stryj) is a city located on the left bank of the river Stryi in Lviv Oblast (region) of western Ukraine 65 km to the south of Lviv (in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains). It serves as the administrative center of Stryi Raion (district). Stryi hosts the administration of Stryi urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population is approximately . Stryi is considered to be the first city in Ukraine to bear the blue-over-yellow Ukrainian national flag when it was hoisted on the flagpole of the Town Hall on March 14, 1990, even before the fall of the Soviet Union in December 1991. FC Skala 1911 Stryi was a Ukrainian football team. The team is based in Stryi, Ukraine. History Over the years there were several clubs connected with Skala Stryi starting from 1911. Club of Austria-Hungary and Poland The first recorded match in Stryi was at times of Austria-Hungary, so called Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria on 29 June 1906 when a team of Stryj gymnasium (high school) lost to a team from Lemberg (Lviv). It was renamed as ''Hazovyk-Khurtovyna'' adding a name of the former Ukrainian club that existed in Komarno prior to the Soviet invasion of Halychyna in 1939. In 2004 this team under the name of FC Hazovyk-Skala Stryi won the Druha Liha Group A championship and was promoted to the Ukrainian First League. Then the team became financially distressed after the 2005/06 season and was bought by the Ukrainian insurance company "Kniazha". FC Skala Stryi (2004)
FC Skala Stryi is a Ukrainian football professional team from Stryi in Lviv oblast. The club currently competes in the Ukrainian Second League. It plays at Medyk Stadium in Morshyn that used to belong to former FC Medyk Morshyn. It is the fourth reincarnation of Ukrainian sports club that existed in Austria-Hungary (Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria) in 1911. History The initiative to create the club beside Mykola Kmit came also from the member of the Board of directors of IDS Group, Vsevolod Bilas, and the president of the Georgian FC Gagra, Beso Chikhradze. In 2004-2009 the club was competing in the Ukrainian Youth Football League as a youth football club FC Morshyn. At same time another club FC Hazovyk-Skala Stryi represented the neighboring city of Stryi in the Ukrainian First League. In 2006 Hazovyk-Skala was reorganized as FC Lviv and moved to Lviv.
