Social Austria Of The Future
The Social Austria of the Future (german: Soziales Österreich der Zukunft; SÖZ, Turkish for "promise") is a small Austrian party that ran for the first time in the 2020 Viennese state and municipal elections. History and positions SÖZ (Turkish: ''söz'' = ''the promise'') was founded in 2019 by Hakan Gördü. It emerged from a renaming of the List Together for Vienna (GfW), which stood in the state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 2015, and its merger with the list New Movement for the Future. Party chairman Gördü ran for GfW at district level in 2015, but did not win a mandate. Until 2016 he was deputy chairman of the Union of Euro-Turkish Democrats (today: Union of International Democrats), but resigned after controversial statements in connection with the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 when he attacked critics of the ruling party Justice and Development Party (AKP). Alexander Van Der Bellen
Alexander Van der Bellen (; born 18 January 1944) is the current president of Austria. He previously served as a professor of economics at the University of Vienna, and after joining politics, as the spokesman of the Austrian Green Party. Van der Bellen was born in Austria to Russian and Estonian parents who were refugees from Stalinism, and he became a naturalized citizen of Austria together with his parents in 1958. He is a descendant of the former Russian Empire's aristocratic Van der Bellen family of patrilineal Dutch ancestry dating back to 18th century. He was a member of the National Council representing the Green Party there from 1994 to 2012, and served as both leader of the party as well as its parliamentary group. 2022 Austrian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Austria on 9 October 2022. Incumbent Alexander Van der Bellen from the The Greens – The Green Alternative, Greens was eligible for one more term and ran for re-election. About 6.36 million voting-age citizens were eligible to vote. Final results showed that Van der Bellen was re-elected in the first round with 57% of the vote. Van der Bellen won in all of the 116 administrative districts of Austria. Carinthia was the only state in which he finished below 50% of the vote. Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) candidate Walter Rosenkranz placed second with 18% of the votes, far short of what his party colleague Norbert Hofer received in 2016. 2021 Graz Local Election
The 2021 Graz local election was held on 26 September 2021 to elect the members of the Gemeinderat of Graz. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) became the largest party for the first time in the city's history, winning 29% of votes cast. The previous governing party, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), fell from 38% to second place with 26%. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) also suffered losses and finished in fourth place on 11%, while The Greens – The Green Alternative, The Greens moved into third with 17%.
