Sobhanachala Studios
Sobhanachala Studios was an Indian film production company which produced films predominantly in Telugu cinema. It was one of the earliest first studios owned by a Telugu person in Madras (now Chennai). The studio was located in Teynampet, Madras. Mirzapuram Raja (Meka Venkatramaiah Appa Rao Bahadur) who had earlier produced films on the "Jaya Films" banner has established Sobhanachala Studios in 1941. The studio was notable for introducing scores of technicians and artists to Telugu cinema. Notable people introduced to the Telugu film industry by the studio were Anjali Devi ('' Gollabhama''), N. T. Rama Rao (''Mana Desam''), Ghantasala (''Lakshmamma'') etc. Its first film was Daksha Yagnam (1941). ''Gollabhama'' is a 1947 Indian Telugu-language swashbuckler film directed by C. Pullayya. Krishnaveni and Raghuramaiah played pivotol roles in the film. The film is produced by Mirzapuram Raja through Sobhanachala Pictures. The film is based on the stories of 'Kaasi Majili' written in Telugu by Madhira Subbanna Deekshitulu. It was released on 22 February 1947. Plot On the way to Kasi, a guru named Manisiddhu tells stories to Gollagopanna. ''Tilottama'' is a 1951 Indian swashbuckling adventure fantasy film, produced and directed by Raja Saheb of Mirzapur under the Sobhanachala Pictures banner. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Anjali Devi, with music composed by P. Adinarayana Rao. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu and Tamil, with the latter being titled ''Mayamalai'' (). ''Keelu Gurram'' () is a 1949 Indian Telugu-language swashbuckler film produced and directed by Raja Saheb of Mirzapuram under the Sobhanachala Pictures banner. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Anjali Devi, with music composed by Ghantasala. Ghantasala (musician)
Ghantasala Venkateswararao (4 December 1922 – 11 February 1974), known mononymously by his surname as Ghantasala, was an Indian playback singer and film composer known for his works predominantly in Telugu and Kannada cinema and also in Tamil, Malayalam, Tulu and Hindi language films. He is considered as one of the greatest singers of Telugu cinema. In 1970, he received the Padma Shri award, India's fourth highest civilian award for his contribution to Indian cinema. According to ''The Hindu'' and ''The Indian Express'', Ghantasala was 'such a divine talent and with his songs he could move the hearts of the people'. ''Mana Desam'' () is a 1949 Indian Telugu-language drama film directed by L. V. Prasad. It was produced by Raja Saheb of Mirzapur under the Sobhanachala Pictures banner, and presented by Krishnaveni. It stars V. Nagayya, C. H. Narayana Rao and Krishnaveni, with music composed by Ghantasala. The film is the debut of actor N. T. Rama Rao in the film industry. Anjali Devi (; 24 August 1927 – 13 January 2014) was an Indian actress, model and producer in Telugu and Tamil films. She was well known for her role as the Devi Sita in ''Lava Kusa'' as well as for the titular roles in movies like Chenchu Lakshmi, '' Suvarna Sundari'' and '' Anarkali''. Early life Anjali Devi was born in Peddapuram, East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, India, as Anjamma. She changed her name to Anjani Kumari when acting in dramas. Later, director C. Teynampet, also Teynampettai, is one of the busiest commercial localities in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
