Snowboarding At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's Slopestyle
The women's slopestyle competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 12 February 2018 at the Bogwang Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Summary Due to high winds, the qualification round originally scheduled for 11 February 2018 was cancelled. All athletes competed in a two-run final round instead of the typical two-run qualification round and three-run final round. Due to the high winds on the final day, the snowboarding event was delayed for more than an hour. The strong headwinds continued into the final, causing many falls amongst the competitors. Of the 25 participants, only five managed to stay on their feet during the first run. No snowboarders recorded two clear runs. Several snowboarders said that the final was irresponsible. According to the FIS, the conditions were "within the norm". The 2014 Olympic champion Jamie Anderson successfully defended her title. Isabel Derungs (born 17 July 1987) is a Swiss snowboarder, competing in slopestyle. Derungs participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and became 18th in the ladies' slopestyle final. Aimee Nicole E. Fuller (born 21 July 1991) is a British slopestyle snowboarder who represented Great Britain at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2018 Winter Olympics. Early life Fuller was born in Farnborough, and grew up in nearby Keston. Šárka Pančochová (, born 1 November 1990) is a Czech snowboarder. She started snowboarding in 2002 at her local mountains in Moravia, Czech Republic. Career Šárka got her first sponsor in the 2005/06 season. In 2007/2008 at the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, Pančochová won the 3Star Quiksilver Snowjam and the Protest and O2 World Rookie fests. In the same season, she won the title of FIS Junior World Champion in Valmalenco, Italy. Anna Gasser (born 16 August 1991) is an Austrian snowboarder, competing in slopestyle and big air. She lives in Millstatt. She is the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Champion in Big air. Gasser qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics and showed the best result in the qualification round, directly qualifying for the final. Julia (Jules) Marino (born September 11, 1997) is an American snowboarder from Westport, Connecticut living in Quebec who competes in the Slopestyle and Big Air disciplines. Early life Marino was born in Westport, Connecticut, which she says was close enough to the mountains to make weekend trips to ski slopes.
