Jan Smit (born 31 December 1985) is a Dutch singer, television host, and actor. Smit mostly sings songs in the Dutch language, in a genre known as ''Volendam music''. In addition to his solo career, in 2015 Smit joined the schlager trio KLUBBB3, and in 2017 The Toppers. As a TV presenter, he has worked on programs like the ''Beste Zangers'' (Best Singers in the Netherlands) and ''Sterren Muziekfeest op het Plein'' (Music Festival on the square.) Adrianus Wilhelmus "Arie" Smit (15 April 1916 – 23 March 2016) was a Dutch-born Indonesian painter who lived on Bali. Early life Smit was the third of eight children of a trader in cheese and confectionery in Zaandam. His family moved in 1924 to Rotterdam, where Smit eventually studied graphic design at the Academy of Arts. In his youth he was most inspired by the work of three artists named Paul ( Signac, Gauguin and Cézanne). In 1938 he joined the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. After three months he was sent to the Dutch East Indies, where he worked as a lithographer for the Dutch army's Topographical Service in Batavia, engraving relief maps of the archipelago. Howard Smit
Howard J. Smit (April 19, 1911 – August 1, 2009) was a pioneering American film make-up artist known for his work on films including '' The Birds'' and '' The Wizard of Oz''. Smit also spearheaded the movement to establish the Academy Award for Best Makeup to recognize the profession within the film industry. He also successfully pushed studios to credit film make-up artists in a movie's screen credits. Smit became a founding member of the IATSE local 706, Make-up and Hairstylists Guild chapter, in 1937. Carola Sier-Smit (born 1 September 1963) is a Dutch singer and was a member of Dutch pop band BZN from 1984 until 2007 when the band disbanded. Biography Musical career Smit was born Volendam, and began her musical career in 1980 (at age 17), when she joined the band ''Double Trouble''. When she was with that band, she released her first single ''Never Loved This Way Before''. In 1982, she released her second single ''Tell Me''. In 1983 the band was renamed ''Friends''. At the same time, she was asked to join BZN to replace previous member Anny Schilder. This change was, however, kept secret. Carolein Smit (born 1960) is a Dutch ceramic art sculptor whose work often includes animals or skeletons. Life and education Smit was born on 22 October 1960 in Amersfoort. She was educated at the AKV St. Joost in Breda from 1979 to 1984, studying graphics and lithography. The Reverend Pierre Jacques Smit (1863–1960), who often signed his works Peter Smit, Peter J. Smit, or P.J. Smit, was a natural history illustrator of the Victorian era in England. Life and work Smit was born in Leiderdorp, Holland, the son of the Dutch natural history illustrator Joseph Smit (1836–1929), also an "able and successful" artist. When he was two years old, the Smit family moved to England, and Joseph became an illustrator at the British Museum Natural History (now the Natural History Museum).
