Smeaton Grange, New South Wales
Smeaton Grange is an industrial suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the Camden Council local government area. The suburb mainly consists of industrial buildings and warehouses. History The area now known as Smeaton Grange was originally home to the Muringong, southernmost of the Darug people. In 1805 John Macarthur established his property at Camden where he raised merino sheep. Education There is one local school, Magdalene Catholic High School (MCHS), which was built in 2000 and is located on Smeaton Grange Road. The Dharug or Darug people, formerly known as the Broken Bay tribe, are an Aboriginal Australian people, who share strong ties of kinship and, in pre-colonial times, lived as skilled hunters in family groups or clans, scattered throughout much of what is modern-day Sydney. Chris Patterson (politician)
Christopher Stewart Patterson (born 8 December 1971), an Australian politician, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Camden for the Liberal Party from 2011 to 2019. Early life and background Patterson has lived in the Camden area for over 25 years. A former TAFE teacher, he later managed the Merino Tavern, and was elected to Camden Council in 2000. He did not seek re-election in 2004; stood again at a by-election in 2005; and became mayor in 2006. Russell Glenn Matheson (born 16 December 1958) is a former Australian politician who served as a Member of the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Macarthur representing the Liberal Party of Australia from August 2010 to July 2016. The seat was previously held by Liberal Pat Farmer, who lost Liberal pre-selection and retired from politics. The Merino is a breed or group of breeds of domestic sheep, characterised by very fine soft wool. It was established in Spain near the end of the Middle Ages, and was for several centuries kept as a strict Spanish monopoly; exports of the breed were not allowed, and those who tried risked the death penalty.
