Small Planes
''Small Planes'', subtitled Lost and Found Songs: 1996–2001, is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band The Innocence Mission, released on September 25, 2001 by What Are Records?. It consists of new and previously unreleased songs recorded by the band following the release of their 1995 album '' Glow''. The album was released to positive reviews, with several publications describing it as an "outtake" album that contains better material than the primary work of most other bands. ''Small Planes'' was issued on vinyl for the first time on November 3, 2021. The vinyl featured an alternate track listing and the song "A Thousand Miles", which had been excluded from the original release. The Innocence Mission
The Innocence Mission is an American indie folk band formed in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1986. The band is composed of Karen Peris (née McCullough), her husband (and fellow guitarist) Don Peris, and Mike Bitts (on bass guitar). Although all members of the band have contributed to their music, Karen Peris is their main writer. History The band members met in 1980 during a Catholic school production of ''Godspell''. Before being signed to a record label, the band was originally called ''Masquerade'' and played covers at local clubs, events and at Lancaster Catholic High School (the alma mater of the band members). By 1986, the band had changed its name to ''The Innocence Mission'' and began to write original music. They released a self-funded EP titled ''Tending the Rose Garden'' in 1986, of which only 1,000 copies were produced. Michael Joncas
Jan Michael Joncas (born December 21, 1951) is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, liturgical theologian, and composer of contemporary Catholic music best known for his hymn " On Eagle's Wings". Biography Joncas was raised in Minneapolis, of Polish descent, attending Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary and St. John Vianney Seminary at the University of St. Thomas, earning a bachelor's degree in English there in 1975. Joncas composed the hymn he is best known for, " On Eagle's Wings", following the death of a friend's father in the late 1970s. It has since been quoted by Joe Biden and covered by Lana Del Rey. He received a Master of Arts degree in liturgy from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 and went on to study at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome, earning both his licentiate and doctorate degrees there. Birds Of My Neighborhood
''Birds of My Neighborhood'' is the fourth studio album by the Innocence Mission. Released in 1999 on Kneeling Elephant, a sub-label of RCA, the album was out of print until Badman Recording acquired the license to remaster and reissue it in 2006. This was the group's first album as a trio following the departure of founding member Steve Brown in 1997. With the exception of his sole contribution to the album—drums and brushes on "Snow"—the album is largely bereft of drums. Don Peris played percussion on "Birdless" and the closing moments of "Green Grass, Red Tree," but otherwise the group adapted to its trio status by replacing Mike Bitt's electric bass with an upright bass and taking a more acoustic sound. Their cover of "Follow Me" was recorded in late 1997 for ''Take Me Home'', a John Denver tribute album which had an estimated release date of 1998. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Street Map is an EP of new studio recordings from the Innocence Mission. Limited to 5,000 copies, the release is their first since 2000's ''Christ Is My Hope Christ Is My Hope is the third EP by the American alternative rock band the Innocence Mission. A collection of newly recorded spiritual music ("O Lord of Light", "O Sacred Head Surrounded", "Beautiful Saviour"), folk songs ("500 Miles "500 ...'' to be sold though their website without the involvement of a record label. Originally intended to preview their next studio LP, an update to their website in September 2009 revealed that after further recording, the next LP "turned out to be a mostly new group of songs, with maybe one song from Street Map."
