Matthew Dutot Slocum is a keyboardist who collaborates predominantly with southern jazz, funk, fusion and blues musicians. He has worked with Susan Tedeschi, Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring, Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge, The Magpie Salute, and Railroad Earth among many others. Early life Slocum was born in Newton, Massachusetts. He began studying classical piano at the age of 8 at the South Shore Conservatory of Music in Boston. When he was 14, he moved to Alabama where he was accepted to the Alabama School of Fine Arts. In the summer of 1991, he attended the Berklee College of Music Summer Performance Program, and was ranked among the top 10 in the entire summer student body. Frances Slocum State Park
Frances Slocum State Park is a Pennsylvania state park in Kingston Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Frances Slocum Lake is a man-made, horseshoe-shaped lake that is a popular fishing and boating destination. The park is from Dallas and from Wilkes-Barre. History The park is named for Frances Slocum, who was taken captive by a group of Lenape on November 2, 1778, when she was just five years old. Her family had been among the first whites to settle in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania. It is believed that she escaped captivity that first night; she was soon recaptured. Frances was held for the night under a rock ledge along Abraham Creek in what is now part of the state park. She spent the rest of her life with the Native Americans. Fort Slocum, New York was a US military post which occupied Davids Island in the western end of Long Island Sound in the city of New Rochelle, New York from 1867 to 1965. The fort was named for Major General Henry W. Slocum, a Union corps commander in the American Civil War. Slocum Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,053 at the 2020 census. History The Lutsey family settled in what is now Slocum Township in 1785. They established the first settlement (known as the “Lutsey Settlement”). Others followed in their footsteps and colonized the territory. A sawmill was erected by John Rosencrans in 1836. The following year, in 1837, William Lutsey built the first frame house. Slocum Township was formed from a segment of Newport Township in 1854. It was named in honor of Joseph Slocum of Wilkes-Barre. Slocum is an unincorporated community in southeast Anderson County, Texas, in the United States. According to the '' Handbook of Texas'', the community had a population of 198 in 2018. It is located within the Palestine, Texas micropolitan area. It is notable as the site of what is known as the Slocum Massacre, an unprovoked attack by a large mob of whites on what was then a majority-black community on July 29–30, 1910. Some twenty-two Blacks were documented as killed; other estimates are that up to ten times, that number may have been murdered. History The community's name is thought to have originated with E.T. McDaniel, the first shopkeeper and postmaster, who had long sought to get a post office for the community. William Slocum Groesbeck (July 24, 1815 – July 7, 1897) was an American lawyer and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1857 to 1859. Early life Groesbeck was born in Kinderhook, New York, on July 24, 1815. He was the son of John H. Groesbeck (1790–1862) and Mary (née Slocum) Groesbeck (1794–1854). The Groesbeck family was originally from Amsterdam. William's sister, Margaret Groesbeck, was married to his wife's brother, Robert Wallace Burnet. Groesbeck moved with his parents to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1816. He attended the common schools and Augusta College in Kentucky. Richard Shawn Slocum (born February 21, 1965) is an American football coach who was the special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL) and most recently was the associate head coach, special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Arizona State University.
