Sliedrecht Railway Station
Sliedrecht is a railway station in Sliedrecht, Netherlands. The station is located on the MerwedeLingelijn line between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen, part of the Betuwelijn. Train services Bicycles are allowed on board for free. Bus services History It was opened on 16 July 1885, when the station had a single track. Next to the passenger lines is the Betuweroute freight railway line. Arriva operated the service since December 2006. However, Qbuzz took over services from Arriva on 9 December 2018. A new station building was built in 1985, which has already been demolished. In the older stationbuilding (photo) is a restaurant: "De Heren van Slydrecht" (The Lords of Sliedrecht). On 27 November 1942, it was the scene of a collision between two trains around 18:30 local time. Sliedrecht
Sliedrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is covered by water. Sliedrecht is known for the many large dredging companies (including Boskalis and IHC Merwede) that come from it. The Dredging Festival takes place in Sliedrecht every two years. The first IKEA store in the Netherlands opened in Sliedrecht in 1978, but it closed in 2006. MerwedeLingelijn
MerwedeLingelijn is the name of the train service in the Netherlands between Geldermalsen and Dordrecht, on the western part of the Elst–Dordrecht railway. Train services were operated by Arriva until 8 Dec 2018, when Qbuzz took over. Since 5 September 2011 (original schedule was 2009) there is a quarter-hourly train service between Dordrecht and Gorinchem. In order for this, the line between Dordrecht and Dordrecht Stadspolders was double tracked, and there is also a passing track built at Boven Hardinxveld, so that trains can pass each other. Qbuzz uses seven train sets, the electric version of the Spurt, the same trains Arriva uses since late 2006 in Groningen and Friesland. These trains have been deployed since 14 September 2008, and have replaced the old Mat '64 trains. In 2011, three additional Spurt-trains were delivered to allow for the increased frequency. Elst–Dordrecht Railway
The Elst–Dordrecht railway is a railway line in the Netherlands running from Elst to Dordrecht, passing through Tiel, Geldermalsen and Gorinchem. It is also called the ''Betuwelijn'' (Batavia line). MerwedeLingelijn is the name of the western part between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen, which is operated by Qbuzz. Tiel - Elst as part of the service Tiel - Arnhem is operated by Arriva and Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) operates Geldermalsen - Tiel as part of the service Utrecht - Tiel. The railway connects to the Arnhem–Nijmegen railway in Elst. There were two connections to the Arnhem–Nijmegen railway in the past from the junction near Vork station; one to Elst and towards Nijmegen connecting near Ressen. The Nijmegen junction was used until 1990 and torn down during construction of the Betuweroute in order of creating a junction between the Betuweroute from Rotterdam and the Arnhem–Nijmegen railway towards both Arnhem and Nijmegen. Betuweroute
The Betuweroute is a double track freight railway between Rotterdam and Germany. is the official name, after the Betuwe area through which the route passes. The line is popularly called Betuwelijn, after an older track in the same region. The line extends into Germany as the Oberhausen–Arnhem railway, and it is part of Project 5 of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). History In 1985 the Van Bonde Commission began to investigate the future of west–east transport. The main advocate of the proposed line was the then minister Neelie Kroes, later Commissioner in the European Union until 2014. Leerdam
Leerdam () is a city and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. The municipality was merged with the municipalities of Vianen and Zederik on 1 January 2019.
