Sliedrecht
Sliedrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is covered by water. Sliedrecht is known for the many large dredging companies (including Boskalis and IHC Merwede) that come from it. The Dredging Festival takes place in Sliedrecht every two years. The first IKEA store in the Netherlands opened in Sliedrecht in 1978, but it closed in 2006. Sliedrecht is also the site of the ''Nationaal Baggermuseum'' (National Dredging Museum) - featuring dredging and salvage. Sliedrecht Baanhoek Railway Station
Sliedrecht Baanhoek is a railway station, in Sliedrecht, Netherlands. History The station opened on 16 July 1885, but was closed on 15 May 1938. The station was reopened on 11 December 2011. The station lies on the MerwedeLingelijn (Dordrecht – Geldermalsen) and is located between Dordrecht Stadspolders railway station, Dordrecht Stadspolders and Sliedrecht railway station, Sliedrecht. Sliedrecht Railway Station
Sliedrecht is a railway station in Sliedrecht, Netherlands. The station is located on the MerwedeLingelijn line between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen, part of the Betuwelijn. Train services Bicycles are allowed on board for free. Bus services History It was opened on 16 July 1885, when the station had a single track. Next to the passenger lines is the Betuweroute freight railway line. Arriva operated the service since December 2006. However, Qbuzz took over services from Arriva on 9 December 2018. A new station building was built in 1985, which has already been demolished. In the older stationbuilding (photo) is a restaurant: "De Heren van Slydrecht" (The Lords of Sliedrecht). Biesbosch
De Biesbosch National Park is one of the largest national parks of the Netherlands and one of the last extensive areas of freshwater tidal wetlands in Northwestern Europe. The Biesbosch ('forest of sedges' or 'rushwoods') consists of a large network of rivers and smaller and larger creeks with islands. The vegetation is mostly willow forests, although wet grasslands and fields of reed are common as well. The Biesbosch is an important wetland area for waterfowl and has a rich flora and fauna. Papendrecht
Papendrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, at the crossing of the River Beneden Merwede and the Noord River. The municipality had a population of in and covers an area of of which is water. Although Papendrecht is first mentioned in documents dating back to 1105, it remained a small settlement until the 1950s. In the 1960s its development accelerated and almost its entire area is now urbanized. It is, however, known for its 180-year-old linden tree by the river. Wina Born-Meijer (Sliedrecht, 21 August 1920 – Amsterdam, 6 August 2001) was a Dutch journalist. She is often named as ''de moeder van de Nederlandse gastronomie'' (English: ''The mother of the Dutch gastronomy''). She has written about a hundred cookbooks and countless articles in magazines, like Margriet and Avenue. Work In 1949, Wina Born published her first articles in the newly founded monthly ''Wijn'' (English: Wine). In the sober years after the Second World War gastronomy and wine were virtually unknown in the Netherlands. Due to her weekly recipe-column in the magazine Margriet, with ''Libelle'' one of the major women magazines in the Netherlands, Born gained notoriety. Jan Rudolph Slotemaker de Bruïne (6 May 1869 – 1 May 1941) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Christian Historical Union (CHU) party now merged into the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and theologian. Jorien van den Herik (born 11 November 1943 in Sliedrecht) is a Dutch businessman. He is most widely known as the former chairman of Dutch football club Feyenoord Rotterdam between 1992 and 2006. Van den Herik helped Feyenoord to purchase some players in 1984 as chairman of the "Friends of Feyenoord Group". In a few years time he had invested 3 million Dutch guldens in the club. In 1989 he became president of the Stadion Feyenoord NV.
