Sky City 1000
Sky City 1000 is a proposed skyscraper for the Tokyo metropolitan area. It was announced in 1989 at the height of the Japanese asset price bubble. The proposal consists of a building tall and wide at the base, with a total floor area of . The design, proposed in 1989 by the Takenaka Corporation, would have housed between 35,000 and 36,000 full-time residents as well as 100,000 workers. It comprised 14 concave dish-shaped "Space Plateaus" stacked one upon the other. The interior of the plateaus would have contained greenspace, and the edges of the building would have contained apartments. The building would have also housed offices, commercial facilities, schools, theatres, and other modern amenities. The Sky City was featured on Discovery Channel's ''Extreme Engineering'' in 2003. Sky Mile Tower
The is a vision skyscraper building in Tokyo, Japan. The design of the tower is part of an initiative called Next Tokyo 2045 for research and developmental purposes and was made by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and Leslie E. Robertson Associates. The Sky Mile Tower would be built on an archipelago of reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. This proposed reclamation project with the Sky Mile Tower as its centrepiece is dubbed as "Next Tokyo". The building is designed to be occupied by around 55,000 people and is planned to be high. Representatives from Next Tokyo believe the value of new waterfront properties in Tokyo Bay could help pay for the project's construction, should the proposal go through. Silk City (Arabic: مدينة الحرير ''romanized:'' Madinat al-Hareer) is a large infrastructure project in northern Kuwait which is currently under development (Phase I). The project will be built in individual phases. The Bionic Tower (Spanish: Torre Biónica; Chinese: 仿生塔) was an imagined vertical city, designed for human habitation by Spanish architects Eloy Celaya, María Rosa Cervera and Javier Gómez. It would have a main tower high, with 300 stories housing approximately 100,000 people. The purpose of the Bionic Tower was to utilize bionics to address the issue of the world's rising population in an eco-friendly manner. The Bionic Tower would be exactly 400 meters taller than the current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. The Bionic Tower is composed of two complexes. The Burj Khalifa (; ar, برج خليفة, , Khalifa Tower), known as the Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration in 2010, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is known for being the world’s tallest building. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft, or just over half a mile) and a roof height (excluding antenna, but including a 242.6 m spire) of , the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009, supplanting Taipei 101, the previous holder of that status. Ville radieuse (, ''Radiant City'') was an unrealised urban design project designed by the French-Swiss architect Le Corbusier in 1930. Arcology
Arcology, a portmanteau of "architecture" and "ecology",. is a field of creating architectural design principles for very densely populated and ecologically low-impact human habitats. The term was coined in 1969 by architect Paolo Soleri, who believed that a completed arcology would provide space for a variety of residential, commercial, and agricultural facilities while minimizing individual human environmental impact. These structures have been largely hypothetical, as no arcology, even one envisioned by Soleri himself, has yet been built. The concept has been popularized by various science fiction writers. Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle provided a detailed description of an arcology in their 1981 novel ''Oath of Fealty''. Paolo Soleri
Paolo Soleri (21 June 1919 – 9 April 2013) was an Italian-born American architect. He established the educational Cosanti Foundation and Arcosanti. Soleri was a lecturer in the College of Architecture at Arizona State University and a National Design Award recipient in 2006. He coined the concept of 'arcology' – a synthesis of architecture and ecology as the philosophy of democratic society. He died at home of natural causes on 9 April 2013 at the age of 93. Soleri authored several books, including ''The Bridge Between Matter & Spirit is Matter Becoming Spirit'' and ''Arcology – City In the Image of Man''. Personal life Soleri was born in Turin, Italy, Europe. He was awarded his "laurea" (master's degree) in architecture from the Politecnico di Torino in 1946.
