It flows through the Gostynin-Włocławek Landscape Park, and from the town of Gostynin to its mouth it is a kayaking area. The Vistula (; pl, Wisła, ) is the longest river in Poland and the ninth-longest river in Europe, at in length. The drainage basin, reaching into three other nations, covers , of which is in Poland. The Vistula rises at Barania Góra in the south of Poland, above sea level in the Silesian Beskids (western part of Carpathian Mountains), where it begins with the Little White Vistula (''Biała Wisełka'') and the Black Little Vistula (''Czarna Wisełka''). Gostynin-Włocławek Landscape Park (''Gostynińsko-Włocławski Park Krajobrazowy'') is a protected area (Landscape Park (Poland), Landscape Park) in north-central Poland, established in 1979, covering an area of . The Park is shared between two voivodeships of Poland, voivodeships: Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and Masovian Voivodeship. Within Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship it lies in Włocławek County (Gmina Baruchowo, Gmina Kowal, Gmina Włocławek). Within Masovian Voivodeship it lies in Gostynin County (Gmina Gostynin) and Płock County (Gmina Łąck, Gmina Nowy Duninów), between the cities of Włocławek and Płock south of the Vistula. Gostynin
Gostynin is a town in central Poland with 19,414 inhabitants (2004). It is situated in the Masovian Voivodship since 1999 and was previously in the Płock Voivodship from 1975 to 1998. It is the capital of Gostynin County. History Gostynin has a long and rich history, which dates back to the early Middle Ages. In the 6th century, a Slavic gord existed north of contemporary town, on a hill located on the left bank of the Skrwa Lewa river, along a merchant trail. In the 12th century, the settlement found itself near the border between the provinces of Mazovia and Kuyavia. In c. 1240, Gostynin was expanded by Duke Konrad I of Masovia, and in the 1280s, Duke Boleslaw II and Duke Konrad II fought over control of the settlement. As a result, in 1286 it was burned by Konrad II. Quickly rebuilt, in 1300 Gostynin was besieged but not captured by forces of Wenceslaus II of Bohemia.
