Skiadas
Skiadas ( el, Σκιαδάς) is a small mountain village in the Preveza regional unit in northwestern Greece. It is part of the Louros municipal unit. It is built upon the mountain Baldenezi, at 500 meters above sea level. Skiadas took that name because according to the Greek mythology the Greek God of the dead, Hades, would sometimes come out of his underworld (which its supposed entrance is only a few miles away from Skiadas at the nearby Serziana village) to seek for some daily light. But because he was sensitive to sun light, he preferred to stay near Skiadas where sun does not shine before 11 AM and there is plenty of shadow (because of a high mountain in front of the village). "Skiadas" means "the shadow of Hades" (in Greek: Σκιά του Άδη). Louros
Louros ( el, Λούρος) is a town and a former municipality in the Preveza regional unit, Epirus, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Preveza, of which it is a municipal unit. The seat of the municipality was the small town of Louros (pop. 1,938 in 2011). The area of the municipal unit is 176.075 km², with a population of 4,581 people (2011). The town and municipal unit are named after the river Louros which flows just south of the town. Until recently, the Louros valley was swampy, but in modern times the marshes were drained and are now used for the production of olives, oranges and tomatoes. Besides the town of Louros itself, the largest towns in the municipality are Néos Oropós (pop. 1,304), Stefáni (440), Vrysoúla (172), Áno Ráchi (127), and Áno Kotsanópoulo (159). Preveza (regional Unit)
Preveza ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Πρέβεζας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Epirus region. Its capital is the town of Preveza. Geography The regional unit of Preveza is located northwest of the Ambracian Gulf. The Ionian Sea lies to the west. The terrain is mostly hilly. The mountains of Xerovouni are in the far northeast. Rivers include the Louros in the east, and Acheron in the north. Its climate is typically Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool winters. Snow is not uncommon in winter at higher elevations. Administration The regional unit Preveza is subdivided into 3 municipalities. Hades
Hades (; grc-gre, ᾍδης, Háidēs; ), in the ancient Greek religion and myth, is the god of the dead and the king of the underworld, with which his name became synonymous. Hades was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although this also made him the last son to be regurgitated by his father. He and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, defeated their father's generation of gods, the Titans, and claimed rulership over the cosmos. Hades received the underworld, Zeus the sky, and Poseidon the sea, with the solid earth, long the province of Gaia, available to all three concurrently. In artistic depictions, Hades is typically portrayed holding a bident and wearing his helm with Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the underworld, standing to his side. Serziana
Seriziana (Greek: Σεριζιανά) is a small mountain village in the north-western Greece (500 meters above the sea level). It is part of the Lakka Souliou municipal unit, Ioannina regional unit. At its foot, the river Acheron The Acheron (; grc, Ἀχέρων ''Acheron'' or Ἀχερούσιος ''Acherousios''; ell, Αχέροντας ''Acherontas'') is a river located in the Epirus region of northwest Greece. It is long, and its drainage area is . Its source is ... passes by. In the ancient times, it is exactly the place that ancient Greeks believed that the doors to Hades were located. Some people tried to pass that location via canoe-kayak in the recent times and some found death, as at this specific place the river becomes very dangerous. Souli
Souli ( el, Σούλι) is a municipality in Epirus, northwestern Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town of Paramythia. Name and History The origin of the name Souli is uncertain. In the earliest historical text about Souli, written by Christoforos Perraivos in 1803, an oral tradition of the locals is recorded. According to this, the first settlers of Souli were shepherds who came from a village called Gardiki trying to avoid the Ottoman oppression. A certain Muslim ("Turk" in the text) named Soulis attempted to expel the early Souliotes from there but the latter resisted with arms. In the battle they killed Soulis and since then the area was named Souli. Another theory suggests that the name comes from Albanian and means 'mountain summit'. The municipality owes its name to the villages of Souli that are located in the southern part of this region.
