Skerries 100
The Skerries 100 is a multi-race event for motorcycles held annually on countryside roads local to the town of Skerries, County Dublin, Ireland, on the first Saturday in July. History The inaugural Skerries 100 race was on Saturday 6 July, 1946. In the early years the race was run by a local development committee, and the Dublin and District Motor Cycle Club ran the event each year until 1986 when they handed it over to Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club who for a number of previous years had been providing local volunteers for running of the event. Since 1987 the Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club have been running the event. In 2009, a major bend on the course was renamed from 'Dublin Corner' to ''Finnegan's Corner'' to honour Irish motorcycle road racer Martin Finnegan, who died in 2008 as a result of a crash during a race at the Tandragee 100 meeting on another road course in County Armagh County Armagh (, named after its county town, Armagh) is one of the ... Skerries, Dublin
Skerries () is a coastal town in Fingal, in the north of County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Skerries was historically a fishing port and later a centre of hand embroidery. These industries declined in the early 20th century, however, and it became both a resort town and a commuter town for Dublin, Dublin City, located approximately to the south. Offshore from the town are several islands, one of which is a nature reserve, Rockabil. Joey Dunlop
William Joseph "Joey" Dunlop (25 February 1952 – 2 July 2000) was a Northern Irish motorcyclist from Ballymoney. Career He won his third hat trick at the Isle of Man TT in 2000 and set his fastest lap on the course of 123.87 mph in the Senior race, which he finished third. In 2016 he was voted through ''Motorcycle News'' as the fifth greatest motorcycling icon ever, behind Valentino Rossi. His achievements include three hat-tricks at the Isle of Man TT meeting (1985, 1988 and 2000), where he won a record 26 races in total. A curve at the 26th milestone on the Isle of Man was named in his honour. During his career he won the Ulster Grand Prix 24 times. Michael Dunlop
Michael Dunlop (born 10 April 1989) is a Northern Irish professional motorcycle racer. Part of a motorcycle racing dynasty, Michael is the brother of the late William Dunlop, son of Robert and nephew of former World Champion Joey Dunlop. He won the Armoy road race on 27 July 2019 just 16 days after breaking his pelvis. The victories were Dunlop's 18th and 19th around his home circuit at Armoy. He is a former solo-machine lap record holder for the Snaefell Mountain Course set during the 2016 Senior TT in a time of 16 minutes 53.929 seconds at an average speed of . Career Born in Lusk, County Dublin, Finnegan took up riding at a young age. At first he went grass track racing where he tasted success. In his later teens his boss at the time, Tony Carton, offered Martin the lend of a bike to try his hand at circuit racing. They went out that day and Martin did almost 100 laps and caught the bug. A winner of 43 Irish road races since 1997, in addition to winning the 2000 Junior Newcomers Manx Grand Prix, Finnegan scored a podium at the 2005 Isle of Man TT where he became the fastest Irishman to lap the course at over 127 mph. John Hinds (21 March 1980 – 4 July 2015) was a Northern Irish doctor known for his contributions to Prehospital Medicine, prehospital care and high-speed motorcycle trauma medicine. He was a Consultant (medicine), consultant anaesthesiology, anaesthetist and intensive care medicine, intensive care doctor at Craigavon Area Hospital in County Armagh. Early life Hinds was born on 21 March 1980 in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. From the age of seventeen, he was a motorcycle enthusiast. William Dunlop (23 July 1985 – 7 July 2018) was a professional motorcycle racer from Northern Ireland who died as a result of a racing incident. Part of a motorcycle racing dynasty, William was the elder brother of Michael Dunlop, Michael; both were sons of the late Robert Dunlop, and nephews of the late Joey Dunlop.
