John Hinds (doctor)
John Hinds (21 March 1980 – 4 July 2015) was a Northern Irish doctor known for his contributions to Prehospital Medicine, prehospital care and high-speed motorcycle trauma medicine. He was a Consultant (medicine), consultant anaesthesiology, anaesthetist and intensive care medicine, intensive care doctor at Craigavon Area Hospital in County Armagh. Early life Hinds was born on 21 March 1980 in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. From the age of seventeen, he was a motorcycle enthusiast. He studied at Queen's University Belfast and graduated with a medical degree in 2003. In 2012 he gained his Certificate of Completion of Training, CCT, with dual accreditation in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. Skerries 100
The Skerries 100 is a multi-race event for motorcycles held annually on countryside roads local to the town of Skerries, County Dublin, Ireland, on the first Saturday in July. History The inaugural Skerries 100 race was on Saturday 6 July, 1946. In the early years the race was run by a local development committee, and the Dublin and District Motor Cycle Club ran the event each year until 1986 when they handed it over to Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club who for a number of previous years had been providing local volunteers for running of the event. Since 1987 the Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club have been running the event. Newtownards is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles (16 km) east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula. Major Trauma
Major trauma is any injury that has the potential to cause prolonged disability or death. There are many causes of major trauma, blunt and penetrating, including falls, motor vehicle collisions, stabbing wounds, and gunshot wounds. Depending on the severity of injury, quickness of management, and transportation to an appropriate medical facility (called a trauma center) may be necessary to prevent loss of life or limb. The initial assessment is critical, and involves a physical evaluation and also may include the use of imaging tools to determine the types of injuries accurately and to formulate a course of treatment.
