Skafish is an American, Chicago-based punk band, fronted by Jim Skafish, cousin of Chicago area DJ Bobby Skafish. The band was formed in 1976 and had their first performance that November. In 1977, ''Billboard'' magazine printed a review of the band's performance as the opening act for Sha Na Na at Chicago's Arie Crown Theater. Finding Skafish to be a "peculiar appetizer for the straight, conservative crowd" that Sha Na Na attracted, the reviewer stated that " rge numbers retreated to the lobby halfway through Skafish's set, while others approached the stage, threatening with missiles, gestures and denunciations." Jim Skafish himself was described as "a 20-year-old musician from Gary, Ind., who appears to be in transition between man and woman ... dressed androgynously, hair in a pageboy," who at one point in the show "strips down to a woman's bathing suit and nervously applies lipstick to the face." Bobby Skafish ( ) is a long-time radio personality in the Chicago area. Career * 1976–1983 WXRT * 1983–1993 WLUP * 1993–1994 WKQX * 1994–2006 WXRT * 2007–2015 WDRV Background Bobby Skafish who grew up in Hammond, Indiana, majored in Telecommunications at Indiana University and worked at WIUS, now WIUX, the college radio station. In January 2007, Bobby Skafish launched an internet radio station broadcast by Live365. In June 2007, Skafish joined the air staff of WDRV Chicago (97.1fm Chicago, WWDV 96.9fm Zion). ''Urgh! A Music War'' is a 1982 British concert film featuring performances by punk rock, new wave, and post-punk bands and artists. Filmed in August to September 1980 it was directed by Derek Burbidge and produced by Michael White and Lyndall Hobbs. Among the acts featured in the film are Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Magazine, the Go-Go's, Toyah Willcox, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, X, XTC, Devo, the Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Dead Kennedys, Gary Numan, Klaus Nomi, Wall of Voodoo, Pere Ubu, Steel Pulse, Surf Punks, 999, UB40, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Police. Jeff Ward (musician)
Jeff Ward (November 18, 1962 – March 19, 1993) was an American musician, serving as a drummer for various rock bands including Skafish, Hammeron, Nine Inch Nails, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Lard (Drums and Vocals), and Low Pop Suicide. He committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in 1993. Revolting Cocks' 1993 album '' Linger Ficken' Good'', Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album ''The Downward Spiral'', Ministry's 1996 album ''Filth Pig'', and Lard's 1997 release '' Pure Chewing Satisfaction'' all featured dedications to him, while Ward's friend (and Nine Inch Nails bandmate) Richard Patrick dealt with his death in the Filter track "It's Over." The Stranglers
The Stranglers are an English rock band who emerged via the punk rock scene. Scoring 23 UK top 40 singles and 19 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning five decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene. Styx () is an American rock band from Chicago that formed in 1972 and is best known for melding hard rock guitar balanced with acoustic guitar, synthesizers mixed with acoustic piano, upbeat tracks with power ballads, and incorporating elements of international musical theatre. The band established itself with a progressive rock sound in the 1970s, and began to incorporate pop rock and soft rock elements in the 1980s. Chicago is an American rock music, rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967. The group began calling themselves the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968, then shortened the name in 1969. Self-described as a "rock and roll band with Horn (instrument), horns", Chicago's songs often combine elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music. Growing out of several bands from the Chicago area in the late 1960s, the line-up consisted of Peter Cetera on bass, Terry Kath on guitar, Robert Lamm on keyboards, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone, Walter Parazaider on Woodwind instrument, woodwinds, and Danny Seraphine on drums. Cetera, Kath, and Lamm shared lead vocal duties. Laudir de Oliveira joined the band as a percussionist and second drummer in 1974. The American Breed
The American Breed was an American rock band from Chicago in the 1960s. The band was originally called Gary & The Knight Lites before adopting the name The American Breed in 1967. The band had a number of charting songs in 1967–68, the best-known of which was "Bend Me, Shape Me". The band broke up in 1970, and members went on to form Rufus after the split. History The American Breed originated as a group formed in 1961 by Gary Loizzo in Cicero, Illinois, United States, called Gary & The Knight Lites. Gary & The Knight Lites was influenced by The Everly Brothers and rhythm & blues songs, and they were joined in their first recording session by Charles "Chuck" Colbert whose father owned the recording studio.
