Sixten Kai Nielsen
Wooloo is a Danish artist collective founded by Sixten Kai Nielsen, Russell Ratshin, and Martin Rosengaard. History The collective was founded in 2002. In 2006 Wooloo exhibited their interactive conceptual work "Asylum" at the WhiteBox Gallery in New York City wherein five international artists were detained while they competed to win the service of an immigration lawyer to help them obtain an O-1 United States visa. The same year, the group received the Franklin Furnace "Future of the Present" award. In 2007 Wooloo created and staged the work "Life Exchange" in the environs of a private New York City apartment. Wooloo participated in the 2010 addition of the roving contemporary art biennial Manifesta in Murcia, Spain with 'New Life Residency" where the art group invited five artists to live in the dark. WhiteBox (arts Centre)
WhiteBox is a non-profit art space located in New York City. It hosts contemporary exhibitions, performance, video and special events including readings, lectures and panel discussions. History The organization was founded by Juan Puntes as an alternative art space for innovative, experimental and thought-provoking contemporary art. It was founded in Philadelphia in 1997, before relocating to Chelsea, New York City in 1998. In the years 1998 and 1999, Whitebox was nominated for “Best Group Show” by the International Art Critics Association for "Plural Speech" and for a survey of Viennese Actionists, Hermann Nitsch and Günter Brus. Franklin Furnace Archive, Inc. is an arts organization-in-residence at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Since its inception in 1976, Franklin Furnace has been identifying, presenting, archiving, and making avant-garde art available to the public. Manifesta
Manifesta, also known as the European Nomadic Biennial, is a European pan-regional contemporary cultural biennale. History Manifesta was founded in 1994 by Dutch art historian Hedwig Fijen. The first edition took place in Rotterdam. One of the coordinators in Rotterdam was Thomas Meyer zu Schlochtern of the Rotterdamse Kunststichting. Among the local artists brought into the international scene, were Jeanne van Heeswijk, Bik Van Der Pol, and Joep van Lieshout. The 2006 edition of Manifesta was set to happen in Nicosia, Cyprus, under the direction of Florian Waldvogel, Mai Abu ElDahab, and Anton Vidokle. In June 2006, Nicosia for Art, the city-run nonprofit organization sponsoring the exhibition, cancelled the event due to political turmoil around the green line of Nicosia.
