The Pauline Family is a Roman Catholic congregation of nine institutes of consecrated life (religious and aggregated institutes) and an association of lay collaborators. it was founded by Blessed James Alberione in 1914. An institute of consecrated life is an association of faithful in the Catholic Church erected by canon law whose members profess the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience by vows or other sacred bonds. They are defined in the 1983 Code of Canon Law under canons 573–730. The more numerous form of these are religious institutes, which are characterized by the public profession of vows, life in common as brothers or sisters, and a degree of separation from the world. James Alberione
James Alberione, SSP ( it, Giacomo) (4 April 1884 – 26 November 1971), was an Italian Catholic priest, and the founder of the Society of St. Paul, of the Daughters of St. Paul, of the Pious Disciples of the Divine Master, of the Sisters of Jesus the Good Shepherd, of the Sisters of Mary Queen of the Apostles, and other religious institutes, which form the Pauline Family. The first two groups are best known for promoting the Catholic faith through various forms of modern media. Early life Alberione was born on 4 April 1884, in San Lorenzo di Fossano, Cuneo, then in the Kingdom of Italy. Institute Of The Holy Family
The Holy Family Institute is an Institute of Consecrated Life that is aggregated to the Society of St. Paul, and it is composed exclusively of married and widowed Catholics. Members take private vows (in a public, Church-regulated ceremony) of poverty, conjugal chastity and obedience and make a promise of fidelity to the Pope. The vows of members of the Holy Family Institute are adapted according to the conditions of the married state and the normal requirements of family life. The Institute was begun in 1960 and received general approval from the Holy See in 1993. Giuseppe Giaccardo
Giuseppe Giaccardo (13 June 1896 - 24 January 1948) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member of the Society of Saint Paul that Giacomo Alberione established. Giaccardo became the latter's closest aide and confidant and was involved in promoting the congregation and the Pauline charism. His profession into the order saw him assume the religious name of "Timoteo". He became a Servant of God on 10 December 1964 under Pope Paul VI when the sainthood process commenced. Pope John Paul II declared him to be Venerable in 1985 and beatified Giaccardo on 22 October 1989; his liturgical feast is assigned for 22 October.
