Sirengate
The AFL siren controversy (dubbed Sirengate) surrounded the conclusion and result of an Australian rules football match played on 30 April 2006 during Round 5 of the Australian Football League's 2006 season. The match was played between the St Kilda and Fremantle Football Clubs at Aurora Stadium (then the sponsor name of York Park) in Launceston, Tasmania. When the final siren sounded, Fremantle were leading by one point; however, the umpires did not hear the siren, and play continued for around 10 seconds, during which time St Kilda scored a point to tie the match. Four days later, the AFL Commission determined that the match should have been ended when the first siren sounded. As a result of this, St Kilda were stripped of their last behind as well as the two competition points for a draw that they had received. Mathew Nicholls
Mathew Nicholls (born 1977) is an Australian rules football field umpire in the Australian Football League. At the end of 2013, Nicholls had umpired 202 career games in the AFL. 2006 AFL Season
The 2006 AFL season was the 110th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured sixteen clubs, ran from 30 March until 30 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Fremantle Football Club
The Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Dockers, is a professional Australian rules football club competing in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. Steven Paul Baker (born 22 May 1980) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 1999 to 2011. Max Kenneth Hudghton (born 2 September 1976 in Victoria, Australia) is a former Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. Selected at pick 15 in the 1996 AFL Draft, Hudghton was a debutant who made his name in the St Kilda Football Club's 1997 season. Brett Voss
Brett Charles Voss (born 22 February 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Brisbane Lions and the St Kilda Football Club. He was drafted by the Brisbane Bears as a zone selection in 1995. Voss, now with the Lions, made his debut in 1997 but was delisted at the end of 2000, struggling to gain selection in a successful Brisbane side, and over-shadowed by his older brother, Brownlow Medallist Michael Voss. Matthew John Maguire (born 30 May 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played with the St Kilda Football Club and the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).
