Sir Lord Baltimore
Sir Lord Baltimore was an American heavy metal band from Brooklyn, New York City, formed in 1968 by lead vocalist and drummer John Garner, guitarist Louis Dambra, and bassist Gary Justin. Some have cited the 1971 review of their debut record, '' Kingdom Come'', in ''Creem'' magazine as containing the first documented use of the term "heavy metal" to refer to a style of music. Sir Lord Baltimore featured a drumming lead singer, traditionally a rarity in rock and metal music. The band is also the first band to be categorized as heavy metal. The group has been called "the godfathers of stoner rock." In 2006, Garner and Dambra reunited as Sir Lord Baltimore and released a new album, '' Sir Lord Baltimore III Raw''. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Electric Lady Studios
Electric Lady Studios is a recording studio in Greenwich Village, New York City. It was commissioned by rock musician Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and designed by architect John Storyk and audio engineer Eddie Kramer by 1970. Hendrix spent only ten weeks recording in Electric Lady before his death that year, but it quickly became a famed studio used by many top-selling recording artists from the 1970s onwards, including Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and David Bowie. At the turn of the 21st century, Electric Lady served as a home for the innovative Soulquarians collective, but fell into financial hardship and disarray in the 2000s. Anthony James Franklin (born 2 April 1962) is an English rock musician, best known for his work on the fretless bass guitar with Roy Harper, The Firm, Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers, John Sykes' Blue Murder, David Gilmour, Kate Bush, Whitesnake, Lou Gramm and most recently with Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. ''Sir Lord Baltimore'' is the second studio album by American rock band Sir Lord Baltimore, released by Mercury Records in 1971. It was reissued on PolyGram in 1994, and on Red Fox in 2003. The 1994 and 2003 re-releases also contained 1970's '' Kingdom Come'', and were titled '' Kingdom Come/Sir Lord Baltimore''. This album marked a change in direction, with the frenetic pace of the first album giving way to a slower tempo. Sir Lord Baltimore expanded to a quartet for this album, with Louis Dambra's brother, Joey Dambra, joining as a second guitarist. ''Sir Lord Baltimore'' contained a supposed live recording, "Where Are We Going", later confirmed by leader John Garner to have been recorded at Mercury Studios, with the audience dubbed in at the producer's request. Michael Earl Saunders (born May 1952), also known as Metal Mike, is an American rock critic and the singer of the Californian punk band Angry Samoans. He is credited with coining the music genre label " heavy metal" in a record review for Humble Pie's '' As Safe as Yesterday Is'' in the November 12, 1970 issue of '' Rolling Stone.'' The Fillmore East was rock promoter Bill Graham's rock venue on Second Avenue near East 6th Street in the (at the time) Lower East Side neighborhood, now called the East Village neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan of New York City.
