Siouxsie And The Banshees
Siouxsie and the Banshees were a British rock band formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bass guitarist Steven Severin. They have been widely influential, both over their contemporaries and with later acts. ''Q'' magazine included John McKay's guitar playing on " Hong Kong Garden" in their list of "100 Greatest Guitar Tracks Ever", while ''Mojo'' rated guitarist John McGeoch in their list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" for his work on " Spellbound". ''The Times'' called the group “one of the most audacious and uncompromising musical adventurers of the post-punk era". Initially associated with the punk scene, the band rapidly evolved to create "a form of post-punk discord full of daring rhythmic and sonic experimentation". Their debut album ''The Scream'' was released in 1978 to widespread critical acclaim. Following membership changes, including the addition of guitarist McGeogh and drummer Budgie, they radically changed their musical direction ...

Morris's first studio recording with the group was in November 1977 when they recorded their first John Peel session for BBC radio. Music journalist Kris Needs said : "Like as a rhythm machine for feet and guts Kenny Morris' drumming is unorthodox, primitive (in a tribal sense) and far removed from the clicking hi-hats of the fly-strength paradiddle merchants". He played mostly toms. He has been cited as a major influence by several drummers of the post-punk era including Stephen Morris of Joy Division, Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus, and Paul Ferguson of Killing Joke. During the recording of the band's debut single " Hong Kong Garden", producer Steve Li ...

Hong Kong Garden (song)
"Hong Kong Garden" is a song by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was released as the band's debut single on 18 August 1978 by Polydor Records. The single reached number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. ''The Independent'' stated that the song was "arguably the most important of the early post-punk hits" and considered the track as one of the "10 best new wave singles" of 1978. In 2005, '' Q'' placed it in its list of the "100 Greatest Guitar Tracks Ever". Background and content The instrumental first version, called "People Phobia", was composed by guitarist John McKay in 1977. The first time the band heard it, they were on a tour bus. The song was named after the Hong Kong Garden Chinese take-away in Chislehurst High Street. In a 2009 interview, Siouxsie Sioux was quoted as explaining the lyrics with reference to the racist activities of skinheads visiting the take-away: I'll never forget, there was a Chinese restaurant in Chislehurst called the Hong Kong Garden. Me ...

Q (magazine)
''Q'' was a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''. ''Q'''s final issue was published in July 2020. ''Q'' was originally published by the EMAP media group and set itself apart from much of the other music press with monthly production and higher standards of photography and printing. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more". Originally it was to be called ''Cue'' (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), but the name was changed so that it would not be mistaken for a snooker magazine. Another reason, cited in ''Q''s 200th edition, is that a single-letter title would be more prominent on newsstands. In January 2008, EMAP sold its consumer magazine titles, including ''Q'', to the Bauer Media Group. Bauer put the title up for sale in 2020 ...
