Jon Klein (musician)
Jon Klein (born 9 May 1960) is an English guitarist and producer, best known for being a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees for seven years, from 1987 until 1994. Klein has worked for other artists including Talvin Singh and Sinéad O'Connor. More recently he has worked as a co-producer and guitarist with Fangoria, Space Tribe, ESP, Shriekback, Micko and the Mellotronics and Jah Wobble. Early years, Specimen and the Batcave He bought an electric guitar at the age of 14. In 1978, he became a member of Bristol band Europeans. In 1980, he formed Bristol band Specimen with Ollie Wisdom and Kev Mills. In 1982, after moving in London and renting a place in Soho, Klein co-founded with Wisdom the club the Batcave, which was a party on Wednesday nights at The Gargoyle. ''Superstition'' is the 10th studio album by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released in 1991. The lead single, " Kiss Them for Me", gave the band its first top 40 ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hit in the United States, peaking at No. 23, with the album peaking at No. 65 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. The band widened its musical influences with the arrival of Indian musician Talvin Singh, who played tablas on the songs "Kiss Them for Me" and "Silver Waterfalls". Background and promotion The band wrote the songs in a residential studio in Wales. The album was then recorded with producer Stephen Hague in London at RAK Studios. Fangoria (band)
Fangoria are a Spanish electropop duo, consisting of Olvido Gara (a.k.a. Alaska, main vocals, occasional guitar), and Nacho Canut (keyboards, occasional bass guitar). Fangoria have sold 1 million records worldwide since 1989. History In 1977 Alaska, along with Nacho Canut and Carlos Berlanga, formed the band Alaska y los Pegamoides. Later, in 1982, they changed the name to Alaska y Dinarama. The group was popular and influential during La Movida Madrileña. Some of their famous recordings include "¿A quién le importa?" and "Ni tú ni nadie". The latter was entered for the Spanish heats of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1985 and later covered by the Mexican group Mœnia in 2004 and by the Puerto Rican band Circo in 2005. OK (Talvin Singh Album)
''OK'' is the debut studio album by English / Indian tabla player and record producer Talvin Singh, released on Island Records in 1998. It won him the Mercury Prize for 1999. The record was included in the book ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. It took nine months of travelling around and recording to complete the album. Singh recorded in London and on Okinawa Island to capture folk singers, as well as in India to collaborate with the Madras Philharmonic Orchestra. Singh hired various collaborators, including guitarist Jon Klein, with whom he had previously recorded on Siouxsie and the Banshees's single " Kiss Them for Me" and toured during the inaugural Lollapalooza festival. Mercury Music Prize
The Mercury Prize, formerly called the Mercury Music Prize, is an annual music prize awarded for the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act. It was created by Jon Webster and Robert Chandler in association with the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992 as an alternative to the Brit Awards. The prize was originally sponsored by Mercury Communications, a brand owned by Cable & Wireless, from which the prize gets its name. It was later sponsored by Technics (1998 to 2001), Panasonic (2002 and 2003), Nationwide Building Society (2004 to 2008) and Barclaycard (2009–14). Lucia Cifarelli
Lucia Cifarelli (born September 23, 1970) is an American musician, best known for her work with industrial band KMFDM. She was formerly the vocalist for the band Drill and also performed in KMFDM offshoots MDFMK, KGC, and Schwein. Career Cifarelli got her start recording in studios in New York, eventually forming her own band, Drill, along with future Black Label Society bass guitarist John DeServio. Drill released one self-titled album, spawning two music videos and getting a third song featured in the movie '' Empire Records''. Later in 1995, Drill opened for Stabbing Westward's ''Wither, Blister, Burn, and Peel'' Tour. The band broke up shortly after the end of the tour. Shriekback
Shriekback are an English rock band formed in 1981 in Kentish Town by Barry Andrews, formerly of XTC and the League of Gentlemen (keyboards/synthesizers/vocals), and Dave Allen, formerly of Gang of Four (bass), with Carl Marsh, formerly of Out on Blue Six (guitars/vocals) soon added to the line-up. Thomas Dolby
Thomas Morgan Robertson (born 14 October 1958), known by the stage name Thomas Dolby, is an English musician, producer, composer, entrepreneur and teacher. Dolby came to prominence in the 1980s, releasing hit singles including "She Blinded Me with Science" (1982) and " Hyperactive!" (1984). He has also worked as a producer and as a session musician. Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley (; born April 27, 1951) is an American musician, best known as the original lead guitarist and co-founding member of the hard rock band Kiss. He invented the persona of The Spaceman (a.k.a. Space Ace) and played with the group from its inception in 1973 until his departure in 1982. After leaving Kiss, Frehley formed his own band named Frehley's Comet and released two albums with this group. Robin Finck
Robert John "Robin" Finck (born November 7, 1971) is an American guitarist. Finck is the longest-serving touring musician for Nine Inch Nails, performing with the band from 1994 to 2000, and returning in 2008. With Nine Inch Nails, Finck contributed studio performances on ‘’ The Slip’’ (2008). Finck also was an official member of Guns N’ Roses from 1997 through 2008. With Guns N’ Roses, Finck wrote and recorded on the long-delayed ‘’Chinese Democracy’’ (2008), notably co-writing the single “ Better”.
