Siobhon Rumurang McManus is a Palauan-Chamorro teacher and peace activist based in Guam. In 2017 she led opposition to the construction of a new missile defence system by the US government. The Chamorro people (; also CHamoru) are the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands, politically divided between the United States territory of Guam and the encompassing Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Micronesia. Today, significant Chamorro populations also exist in several U.S. states, including Hawaii, California, Washington, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, and Nevada, all of which together are designated as Pacific Islander Americans according to the U.S. Census. According to the 2000 Census, about 64,590 people of Chamorro ancestry live in Guam and another 19,000 live in the Northern Marianas. Valentine Namio Sengebau
Valentine Namio Sengebau (c. 1941–2000) was a poet from Palau. He lived on the island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. There is a poetry competition with his name which is open to middle school and high school students, and aims to support young poets. Sengebau wrote poems discussing the personal, political and cultural life in Micronesia. Following his death, an anthology of his work was published by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council.
